Why kitchens are the heart of the home

Ever thrown a dinner party and found that all of your guests congregate in the kitchen? Home is where the heart is as the saying goes, and the heart of the home has definitely made its way to the kitchen.

This humble space has changed with the times, gone are the days where the stay at home wife/mum would spend hours working away preparing food for the family. Today’s kitchen has become a multi-purpose space where the grownups make dinner, family’s bake together and children do their homework. With this in mind, it’s never been more important to create the perfect atmosphere for all of these activities and more when designing your kitchen.

Go open plan if you can

Open plan is definitely the way forward. Not only will it create more space and light, but it will allow for the room to become the true central point of your home. It needs to be so many things all at once; a place to relax, a place to cook and tidy up and a place to sit and eat. How fantastic would it feel to be busy cooking dinner for everyone whilst keeping a watchful eye over the kids doing their homework using a dining table!

Create the feeling of a bigger space, even if your home is small

Even if you have a smaller home or apartment where making the most of your space is crucial, you can create the feeling of more space by making your kitchen area the heart of your home. Why not take out that huge space invading dining table an add a central island (big or small), and pair with some luxurious stools to create a brand new eating area.

By doing this, you’ll not only save on space, you’ll also transform it into an incredibly sociable area that friends and family can gather round to eat, drink and celebrate together.

If you’re going to invest in any room, your kitchen should be top

Couples and families invest a lot of money into kitchen upgrades because it’s one of the most important rooms when it comes to selling your home on. Your kitchen sets the tone for the entire house and is a true reflection of your personality and style. Get it right and your kitchen can turn a bad day, into a fantastic day!

If you can’t afford a full refurb, why not consider either replacing the doors or getting them repainted? Often a fresh coat of paint can make a kitchen feel like brand new! Or how about replacing the worktops from laminate to solid wood, granite or marble? You could consider a corian kitchen worktop.

However you decide to do it, make the kitchen the heart of your home this year.
