When I was a child, there were a number of toys I would’ve loved to have had. One such item was called a Lite-Brite. Made by Hasbro, this consisted of a light box with small coloured plastic pegs that fit into a panel and illuminate to create a lit picture, by either using one of the included templates or by creating a “freeform” image.
Little did I know back then, these would come back to haunt me thanks to Stranger Things! Now it is retro and a brand new trend thanks to the Netflix hit television series. But, like anything that is brought back, it is bigger and better than before! Plus, I have even more of an excuse to get one now as this is aimed at 14 years and over (that is, if I can get it away from Grace!).

The Stranger Things Lite Brite UK Special Edition
Now you can create light art in high-definition with the Stranger Things Lite Brite Special Edition. The set is presented in retro packaging and includes 650 coloured LED pegs, 12 design templates all relating to Stranger Things and the Stranger Things branded Lite Board.
The templates feature a number of your favourite monsters and icons from the series – either that, or simply use your imagination.
This set has been brought bang up to date (despite the appearance on the outside!) but, just like the good old days, it equires 3 AA batteries – not included. It is 97% Plastic, 3% electronics and is easy to wipe clean. Dimensions: 8”l x 10.25”w x 1.5”h and weight: 1.5 lbs
Finally, once your creation is ready, you can light it up with 4 colour-changing patterns; white light, alternating flash, all-flash and rotating flash.
Why is there a Stranger Things Edition of Lite-Brite (spoiler alert!)
In Stranger Things season 4, episode 7, Dustin, Lucas, and his little sister Erica try to talk with their friends Steve, Robin, Nancy and Eddie who are all stuck in the Upside Down. The three who are not stuck in the monster-filled dimension remember how Joyce Byers, played by Winona Ryder, used Christmas lights to communicate with her son Will when he was stuck. They realise Mike’s little sister Holly has a Lite-Brite toy. They fill the toy’s screen with lights so the group in the Upside Down can write out words and communicate with Dustin, Lucas, and Erica to help rescue them.
Our Thoughts
The Lite-Brite – as expected – gives you hours of fun and a little bit of therapy too! It felt much like when Grace and I do a jigsaw puzzle together but not quite as long-winded.
The satisfaction of putting an image together and then seeing it light up is definitely a positive feeling and the want to get one of these fantastic items as a child has now been realised. Another positive note is that it brings you back to a more simple way of playing – and not just sitting there doom-scrolling through social media.

Wow! we have the regular lite bride set, and even that seems fiddly. This one looks bigger and the image templates seem far more in-depth. The finished result looks fab though!
