Prose For Thought – Just Breathe
This week I am rushing all over the place. As usual I have taken on too much because of my fear of letting people down and not saying no! It is partly to do with my fear of ‘missing out’! I sometimes wonder if this is the result of being the eldest of a lot of siblings. I am also a people-pleaser – not so bad as I used to be, but the traits are still there on occasion. I also think that it is due to the fact that this week is the Legoland Event for the MAD Blog Award finalists, we are moving house, then it is BritMums Live and then we got on holiday! Phew!!
So, I had to write something a little different this week for Prose for Thought in keeping with all of this.
Don’t forget that Helen and I are starting our new BritMums Poetry and Prose Round-up on Wednesday 3rd July and I will be first up with all my pick of the posts :). Please get in touch if you have something you would like me to read.
Just Breathe
Head,
Swimming, full of things, cotton wool-stuffed,
Brain,
Taking in too much, remembering too little, needs some space
Body,
Tired but can’t sleep, aching without reason, not fast enough
Hands,
Making mistakes, rushing things through, I need you to work
Legs,
Don’t let me down, take me to places, rest is not an option
Child,
Bothering me, caring for me, just being her
Man,
Helping where he can, a similar wavelength, showing his strength
Tasks,
Piling up, trying to prioritise, need to be ticked off
Life,
Manic yet happy, busy yet calm
Just breathe

Love the way you go through all the different body parts- I can definitely relate to this poem!
Wonderful poetry, and admiral of you to string together words so eloquently with all that you have going on in your life at the moment – are you sleeping at all?!! Very best wishes xxx
Great poem and I can so relate to how you feel! True, I’m not going on holiday or moving house, but my head feels like it’s going to explode with the amount of stuff I take on. I write lists and I still forget and I’m still rushing and worrying!
This is excellent. My favourite poem of yours I have read so far. And I can so identify with it – I’ve taken on a bit too much this week too, and like you I can’t say no and am a total people pleaser! Ah well we should get along grand 😉 Just focus on your approaching holiday when you can relax and forget all about houses, twitter and blogging! xx
I agree with Emma. I could never spin that many plates xx
Loved this and it totally resonates of when you feel that everything around you is blurring coz you’re moving too quickly. I hope you manage to get everything done and have a FAB holiday – well earned xx
Lovely poem, so real and true 🙂
As if by magic on the 7th re-load my poem appeared! Honey you sound so very busy, and your poem really transmits your busyness! I love how you focused on a different part of you, and then you exhale at the end. Lovely xx
Lovely poem! Love the way the short lines make it seem like you’re catching a breath each time. From another eldest child 🙂
Great poem! I love the body parts each in turn, you relying on them not to let you down. Hope life calms down a bit…
Wonderful poem and I can so empathise.
I’m an eldest child too and I might write about it all one day.
I certainly know that feeling of going to bed tired but can I sleep? Quite often I’ll end up drafting a post :-/
Good luck for the next few weeks x
Vicky, this is brilliant. And from you at a time when so much is going on, and you are being pulled in so many directions… a house move would be enough for most people to deal with, how you are managing to keep those plates spinning is beyond me. Be kind to yourself, ok?!
That said, our very best writing can come from times of change. These manic moments, emotional ebbs and tumultuous tides often help creativity flow. So let your circumstances boost your writing. But still be kind to yourself! x
So very poignant. I’m sure most busy mums can relate. Saying no is an art form – try and work out if there’s anything taking up too much time for too little reward and get rid 😉
Good luck at Legoland and with everything else xx
