On 6 Years of Blogging
Guess what? I am actually writing a proper personal post for a change and for good reason! Today marks the 6th Anniversary of my blog. Blogging feels a bit like having a child – I don’t know where the time has gone yet it feels like only yesterday that it came into my life.
This blog started it’s life as a parenting blog and seems to have come full circle. Grace was just 5 years old when I began – she is now 11. As she got bigger, I wrote less about parenting and more about life in general. I also shared more of my poetry. I then started to write – and vlog – about details of the difficulties Ross and I were experiencing in trying for a baby. Then, it become a pregnancy blog and now, it is back to being a parenting blog.
I have to admit that I have let things go a bit over here. I don’t write so many personal posts at the moment and Prose for Thought, my poetry link, has once again been put on hold. But there are a number of reasons for this.
First – and most importantly – my family has to come before anything else. That mainly means Rex. I am currently looking after him full-time as well as trying to work and trying to look after the house. I feel like I never stop. I work when Rex goes down for his nap in the morning and then I am back again in the evenings after dinner and once Grace has gone to bed. Interspersed with all of this are meals, housework and washing – although Ross tends to cook the evening meal.
On top of all of this, I have also (finally) started my photography business. Ross has been nagging me to do this for some time now and so, as I finished my maternity leave back in April, I started up Vocal Eyes Photography. I have had a few weddings and family photo shoots and am currently booking up for next year. To say that I am excited is an understatement. I have finally found the thing I want to do most in the world – and it only took me 47 years!
But, if there is one thing I have learned since I started blogging, it really doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter about the stats or the figures or the visits or the opportunities (which I love, but don’t obsess about). I know that my UMVs aren’t that great and my social media following isn’t as big as other bloggers – many of whom started after me. Occasionally, yes, I do get a little hung up on how to improve and grow as well as make sure my SEO is correct but I certainly don’t worry about it like I used to. I think that this is because I finally feel that my life is going where I want it to go.
I have the family I have always wanted and I have the career I have been looking for for so long. As a result, I now control this blog – and not the other way around. I have finally found a better blog/social media/life balance and I am a much happier person for it!
Coming soon! To say thank you and give something back to the people who read this blog, I shall be giving one lucky person the chance to win over £600 worth of prizes from just some of the wonderful companies I have worked with. Look out for my post towards the end of this week.
