An Ode to Chocolate – Day 12 of National Poetry Writing Month #NaPoWriMo

My twelfth poem for National Poetry Writing Month speaks for itself.  ‘An Ode to Chocolate’

An Ode to Chocolate

I’ve tried hard to avoid you
In oh so many ways
Sometimes, in the evenings
It’s you I sit and crave

Been a love of mine
Since forever ago
You come in many shapes
There’s lots of you, I know

You never answer back
Or argue, fuss or fight
I’ve tried to give you up
I’ve tried with all my might

I’ve decided to give in
To the temptation you offer me
I can’t leave you behind
I’m too far gone you see

My obsession with you is big
Some may say obscene
My most favourite of you all
Is the one they call praline

  1. Hi Victoria, 30 poems in 30 days? A challenge you are more than capable of stepping up to! I love this fun poem, obviously written from the heart. I’m sat here obsessing over a packet of chocolate coated raisins I know are in the kitchen… Maybe in a moment with a nice cup of tea!

    xx

    1. Thanks Debbie. I wasn’t feeling so inspired today!! Thank you – I am really glad you can associate!! x

  2. Love this!!! I have finally managed to kick the habit and can indulge in just one small square of high cocoa chocolate to satisfy me. It has taken me a long long time but I am there (for the time being)!!!

    1. Thanks Vicki – I don’t think that I will ever be able to give it up (although I am going to for a while now!) xx
