Hands down, the Slimming World plan is quite simply the best diet I have ever followed. In fact, it doesn’t actually feel like a diet now. Just a new way of eating.
Last week, because things were a little easier on the time front (and Rex was better!), I meal-planned again and found things to be more straightforward as a result.
The Slimming World food I ate
Last week I started meal planning again. I am finding this easier as I keep doing it. We had the maple-glazed chicken with stuffing again – although it didn’t come out quite as well as last time. This is because I used my new food processor to blend it up and made it too runny! The syn-free roast potatoes were definitely better – and crispier – than last time though because I cooked them for longer. We also had turkey burgers and the chicken tikka masala which I have made before.
We went out for lunch to Wetherspoons on Sunday. Because they didn’t have any prawns for the Festive menu jacket potato this time, I chose the tuna mayo jacket potato instead. I was a little concerned on the syns but, because I am being extra vigilant the rest of the time, I didn’t let it spoil my food!
The Options Hot Chocolate drinks from the advent calendar are a great end to the day. I may have to carry that one on after Christmas!
Favourite Discoveries of the Week
Yesterday, I bought some macarons from Lidl. This was solely because they were down to 70p! I decided that if I couldn’t have them, at least the rest of my family would enjoy them. Anyway, I looked up the syns on the Slimming World app (Brilliant thing. If you are on Slimming World and don’t have it – get it!) and discovered they were just 2 syns each! I had 2 for my lunch.
How I felt
I can’t even begin to tell you how good I am starting to feel about myself. Gradually my self-esteem and confidence is starting to return. Previously, I wasn’t keen about having my photograph taken (despite the fact that I was fine about this ALL of the time before my weight-gain). Now I am much happier about it.
I can walk around and feel spritely and far more energetic than I have for a very long time! Clothes which haven’t fitted me for ages are now starting to again. It feels like I have a new wardrobe!
As I said at the beginning of this post, I don’t feel like I am on a diet. I have just modified how I eat!
My exercise still isn’t quite where I want it to be. Despite the fact that we wanted to clear out the garage, it has just got busier thanks to a new bed frame we need to build and Christmas! Ross and I have decided that this is a project for the period between Christmas and New Year. The treadmill and weights bench are beckoning! It hasn’t stopped me doing more walking though. I am also looking forward to an evening of dancing when we go to the family disco at Westlands on the 23rd.
The Slimming World meeting
It was great to be back in the group last night. There were so many positive faces and lovely chats. We all share ideas and support each other.
I am very chuffed to say that I earned my Club 10 award. It was a complete surprise to me. I actually thought that I had either gained or stayed the same. In fact, I had lost 1.5lbs and am just a pound away from my one and a half stone.
The Club 10 award is important because it can help:
- Lower blood pressure, reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke and lower your need for medication
- Reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. If you have diabetes weight loss could improve your diabetes control and reduce the need for medication
- Lower blood cholesterol levels, which are associated with increased risk from heart disease
- Reduce strain on the joints and improve back and joint pain
- Your lungs function better and reduce breathlessness
- Improve mood and self-esteem
- Improve asthma and reduce the need for medication
- Become more mobile, making it easier to be more active
- Improve fertility and menstrual problems
- Reduce the risk of certain obesity-related cancers such as cancers of the breast, uterus, cervix, ovaries and gall bladder
Isn’t that awesome?!
Becs passed around a bag which weighed a stone last night. I couldn’t believe how heavy it was and how much I had been carrying around. I had Grace and Rex with me as Ross was away on business. Grace picked it up and was seriously impressed at what I had achieved!
So, the best Christmas present would be to earn that next award before the end of the year. I feel confident about doing it too!
Weight at the beginning of my diet: 195.5lbs
Weight last week: 177lbs
Target weight: 156lbs
Weight this Monday: 175.5lbs
Loss for the week: 1.5lbs
Total Loss so far: 20lbs
As I said above, I am feeling SO much better. I have to admit that I keep looking at the Monitor my Weight app because it shows all my stats and achievements as well as my goals. I think I am still in disbelief at what I have done!
My goals for this week
Last week I said that I’d love to get that Club 10 before Christmas. Done that. Now it is the one and a half stone award I would love! Also, we have a Christmas food taster next week and I am hoping to take some of the Sage and Apple Sausage Rolls from the Festive Feasts recipe book. Looking forward to that! (recipe will be shared here!).
