The International Garden Photographer of the Year Competition #AYearWithMyCamera

Back in February, Emma over at A Year With My Camera sent us a lesson entitled ‘How to win a photography competition‏’. Until that point I had never even considered such a thing. I still think of myself fairly new at this with lots to learn. However, Emma discusses the point that you should not necessarily enter to win (a bit like the blog awards) but because you will raise your game if your image is going to be judged (definitely like the blog awards!). Anything that we publish or perform in public will be much more polished than things we do just for ourselves.

She also said that no one would know you have entered…so I have quashed that one right here! (Although I am not sure whether that is wise!). Since winning the ‘Eyecatching’ competition on the Year with my Camera Facebook page, it has given me a little more confidence.

Emma suggested that we enter the International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY) competition and, in particular, the monochrome seasonal competition. The entry deadline is 31 March. So yesterday, I bit the bullet and submitted 4 entries. It has really helped me to see what works in black and white and what doesn’t.

I certainly don’t expect anything from it but, as they say, you’ve got to be in it to win it!
