Five Fabulous Years of Fun

Today Ross and I have been together for five years. In some ways it feels like forever and, in others, it only feels like a moment ago. He and I have been through a lot together – more than most and less than some – but whatever happens I know that he is there for me, as I am for him.

As some of you may have read, we are going through a bit of a trial at the moment but I know that we are destined to get through this as have done so many others. However, that is not to say that we are not having fun. We have, and we do, in so very many ways and in my poem for Prose for Thought and the Prompt this week (where the word is fun) I wanted to capture just a bit of that.

We usually buy each other a gift on our anniversary but this year our money is going towards the biggest gift of all – trying for our baby – so instead, this one is for you Ross, with my love. Oh, and I have shared one of my favourite photos of you too 🙂 ( you will find a recording of my reading of the poem just under the title).

Five Fabulous Years of Fun

We met during a pantomime
Our lives are anything but
Dancing to Michael Jackson
I distinctly remember your strut
We moved on to coffee and talking
And boy, did we go on
A first date to see Godspell
But not so keen on the songs!
Five fabulous years of fun

Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings
There’ve been many LEGO games
Trying to meet the challenges
Guaranteed at least one of us blames!
You are someone who loves music
Almost just as much as me
So many discussions about it
On which most of the time we agree
Five fabulous years of fun

Breaking Bad, it captivated us
And so has The Walking Dead
Laughing at the Inbetweeners
Greys Anatomy and tears that we shed
There was also the IT Crowd
And, of course, the Gilmore Girls
Trying to make up for his mistakes
That honour was Randy and Earls
Five fabulous years of fun

We’ve acted as zombies on films
We’ve dressed as eighties stars
You clean both of the bathrooms
I look after both of the cars
Lots of fond holiday memories
Center Parcs three times to date
As for going to Pontins again
You’ve got to be joking mate!
Five fabulous years of fun
