‘Cold’. A Photo and Poetry Prompt
As you might have seen from last week’s post, I am using Mummy B’s 52 week photography challenge as a prompt for both my photography and poetry this year. I am writing my poem in a separate post together with the photo I have taken so not only does it mean that I can link my poem to Prose for Thought but I can also link to other linkies as well.
This week’s theme is ‘Cold’. I thought I would share my interpretation of that at this time of year!
For the last 8 or so weeks Grace has suffered with a bad cough and cold. It finally seems to be on the way out for her…but now Ross and I have it!
I seem to be spending rather a lot of time here right now…
Cold
She sniffles, she snuffles
She blows and she sneezes
She coughs and she splutters
And occasionally wheezes
The Doc says its a virus
I don’t believe him at all
I’m sure they didn’t say this
Back when I was small
So I will take care of her
I’ll give her my best
I’ll give her lots of hugs
And make sure she has rest
Hot drinks and comfort food
Because – so I’m told
It is starve a fever
But you should feed a cold

I do hope Grace is feeling better now! Sorry I’m so late to comment, but I’ve had the flu and I’ve been in bed for days. Hate this time of year! Love your poem, that phrase ‘it’s a virus’ is always enough to make me weep with frustration 🙂 #whatimwriting

So sorry I’m late to this, because my top tip is probably too late for you now too. But I must tell you, 2 years ago a school mum recommended First Defence nasal spray to me for colds. I figured it couldn’t hurt to try, and I have seriously not had a proper cold again since – and I’ve used it at most a handful of times in 2 years! It was actually the Boots equivalent, Cold Defence, which I used, and I now try and recommend it to everyone to #payitforward. Hope you are feeling much better by now anyway – I like your shot, but dislike it too if you know what I mean!! Love the poem though 🙂
This made me smile! Brilliant… but not that this flipping cold found t’s way to you!
Out little miss was poorly all over Christmas and we ended up in our of hours and then a&e with a flipping ear infection!

Oh no, B had an ongoing cold last year and I did the year before and they are just horrible. I do hope you are all better soon. I swear by rosehip syrup (which I make) but you need to take lots of it just as you start to get that cold feeling and both times when B and I were ill we were away without any supplies.

My husband and I were juts saying last night that we hope the colder weather is blasting away all the nasty cold bugs that seem to be going around. I do hope you’re all feeling better soon x

Most of my family have been suffering similarly…half can’t be bothered to go the doctor, some went and got given antibiotics and I, sending up a prayer of thanks for the flu jab, am only suffering milder versions of what everyone else has had.
My dad will tell you it’s because our Winter is being quite mild and not cold enough to kill off the bugs! He may be right but it doesn’t help when you’re feeling rubbish!

What a great rhyme, I’m envious as I really struggle to write any decent poetry. Cold is definitely a theme at the moment, we’re one step further in our house as my eldest has flu. Back to school for a few days and then off again! I like those last two lines of your poem as it’s a saying which has stuck with me for years. I hope everyone is recovered in your house soon.

Bless her 🙁 I can totally sympathise as have taken ages to get over my cold ‘virus’ which turned into a nasty throat infection which I eventually got antibiotics for. Here’s hoping you’re all right as rain very soon xx
