Make learning fun and progressive with the Reading Eggs programme

Just under ten years ago, way back at the start of my blog I was offered a review of Reading Eggs, an online learning support programme for children which assists them with reading and maths. Grace enjoyed it and I was impressed. She did pretty well and the world moved on. She is now 14 years old. Step up Rex and a whole new round of primary school, learning, reading and writing. So, Reading Eggs has found it’s way back into our life with very welcome open arms.

Why Reading Eggs?

Rex has excelled at number thanks to Numberblocks but he is also starting to pick up on his reading and so we wanted something more structured and interactive. Reading Eggs fills that gap.

Not only does it offer a host of reading games, puzzles and rewards but there are also FREE downloadable resources, regular progress reports for parents and a shop where you can purchase a range of books which support the programme.

What else does Reading Eggs provide?

The main Reading Eggs programme is aimed at children aged 3 to 7 years but that is not all! There is also Reading Eggs Junior geared towards the 2 to 4 year age group, Fast Phonics – which features a Yeti which Rex loves! – suitable for the 5 to 10 year olds and Reading Eggspress for 7 to 13 year olds.

If you thought they just supported reading, then you would be wrong! There is also the fantastic Mathseeds programme for aged 3 to 9 years. In a similar vein to Reading Eggs, there are games, songs and golden acrod rewards to be earned.

More reasons to love Reading Eggs

I love the structure of each and every programme on Reading Eggs. You are able to adjust the level of where your child starts learning to ensure that it is not too easy nor too difficult – both of which could be off-putting for them.

Each programme has it’s own character. There is Reggie for Reading Eggs, Buddy for Mathseeds and with Fast Phonics and the Yetis, as you complete each map there is a new home on the mountain peak! There are also some rather cute little snowball like critters!

But, one of the best reasons is that it supports the school core literacy teaching.

The Reading Eggs book shop

One of the things that we didn’t try when Grace was using the programme were the extra resources. The Reading Eggs and Mathseeds programmes are supported by a range of fun workbooks in the book shop. We have received the Reading & Maths Essential Skills for Year 1 Bundle and Rex instantly recognised Mango the Monkey and a whole host of characters from each of the sections.

These books compliment the programme perfectly, helping to reinforce the skills learned online. It also gives your child a little bit of downtime from the laptop or iPad and means that he gets the chance to use a pencil and practice his writing skills too.

The reading workbook includes:

• 50 lessons with four worksheets each
• 10 quizzes with lesson reviews and rewards

Our Thoughts

We wholeheartedly recommend the Reading Eggs programme. They make learning fun and Rex is getting plenty of information at the same time as enjoying himself. Given the chance, Rex would be on it all day so we have had to restrict his screen time (I didn’t think that I would be saying this quite yet!). Although, I am happy that he is online doing something that will benefit his education!
