What’s On for Professionals at The Photography Show
This time last year I hadn’t started my Photography business. I had decided upon a name and bought the domain but that was about as far as I had got. When I suggested to Ross that I attend The Photography Show to help me, he gave me his full support – and I am so glad he did.
This year, as I look through the programme for The Photography Show, I am starting to feel that I need to split myself 4 ways so that I don’t miss all the things that are on offer – this is despite the fact that I am going for two days!
In my last post, I shared 4 great reasons to visit The Photography Show. Here are a few things on offer that you might like to consider if you are a professional photographer.
Table of Contents
Women Who Photo
One of the talks I attended last year was given by Laura Babb of Babb Photo. Her Business Bootcamp talk was invaluable to me and I still use her information on starting a photography business now. Laura is a UK wedding photographer and has photographed more than 200 weddings and in 2016 she was named one of New York based Rangefinder Magazine’s 30 Rising Stars of Worldwide Wedding Photography. No surprise then that she is one of the ambassadors of the Women Who Photo Campaign at this year’s show.

The campaign has been launched to help recognise some amazing female photographers and filmmakers in this male-dominated industry. That said, they are not looking to put a downer on the men who are photographers – they just want women who are also in the business to make more noise about what they do and how well they do it. They would also like other women to consider it as a career or hobby. Raising my hand over here!
Pro Conference
As I said above, I came away with some really helpful tips last year and now, with my business being just under a year old, I am looking for different information to help me this time around.

One of the hardest things I have found is pricing. I don’t want to price myself out of the competition but, on the other hand, I want to ensure that I am not under-selling myself and charging too little. With this in mind, I shall be attending the Pro Conference session ‘Professional Pricing – What’s Your Rate?’ which takes place on Monday 18th March at 10.30am. Nick Dunmur will help with the process of understanding your business, your market and how to get your pricing just right.
Editing and Post-Production Suite
If I had the chance, I would sit and learn everything there is to know about editing all day, every day. I find the whole thing absolutely fascinating, so this is one area that really excites me.

I am very keen to speed up my workflow. Not only do I find it hard choosing my favourite images from a shoot, I also am a stickler in making sure I get the editing just right. As a result it can sometimes take me longer than it should! There are two sessions which stand out for me and those are ‘How to Colour Grade Your Pictures for Adding Mood, Atmosphere and a Unique Style’ at 10.30am on 17th March and ‘Photoshop Tricks for Photographers’ on the same day at 12pm.
Pro Meet-Ups
One of the things I am really looking forward to this year is meeting more Professional Photographers and chatting to them to share ideas and tips. I met a couple of ladies last year over lunch, but the Pro Lounge will give me the chance to speak to even more people.
I am pleased to see that there is a Women’s Pro Photography meet-up on Sunday 17th March in the Pro Lounge from 3pm, which I am really looking forward to attending and then there is Pro Happy Hour straight afterwards.

The Super Stage
If the Super Stage doesn’t inspire me, then nothing will. The speakers here are at the top of their game and I firmly believe that I will come away excited for the future of my photography.
One person I am particularly interested in listening to is Annie Griffiths: Photography for Good. Her talk takes place on Sunday 17th March at 3.30pm. She will be sharing the story of her journey from a rural Minnesota newspaper to the pages of National Geographic Magazine and beyond.
