I have a huge passion for photography. Since having Rex I have only really been able to take baby photos and I miss the creativity and variety of the images that I did take. When I saw that Urban Cottages were running a photography competition, I decided to dig through some of my pictures and find the two I would like to enter. It is stipulated that one needs to be in natural light and the other artificial photography lighting.

Natural Light

I have always found natural light fascinating. There are so many varients and, generally, you cannot control it. My favourite natural light has to be the golden hour. This is the time shortly after sunrise or before sunset when daylight is redder and softer than when the sun is high in the sky. For my natural light photo, I have chosen a golden hour image. This is a photo I took at Alicante Marina. The sun was a brilliant colour and I found the statue in the water a great subject. It caused ripples which made patterns and made the image that bit more interesting than just having the boats and buildings in the golden glow of the evening.

Artificial Light

One of the hardest types of artificial light to work with is stage lighting. Ross is the singer with a local band and I have regularly gone along to their gigs to take photos. I find it extremely hard to capture the right images and have to take plenty of photos to make sure I capture at least a few.

For a couple of years running, Ross and I were lucky enough to cover the Rewind Festival in Henley on Thames. It was here, in 2016, that I captured one of my most favourite photos. It is of Rick Astley. He was singing ‘Angels on my Side’ and had a fantastic light show behind him. I managed to capture this photo at exactly the right time!
