Losing Weight with Slimming World Week 14 & 15

I am not sure if I can actually count the last two weeks as weightloss with Slimming World really. I fully expected to eat and drink what I wanted (within reason, of course!) over the Christmas period and planned for a weight gain as a result. Of course, I didn’t want it to be too drastic and felt that 3 or 4 pounds would be an acceptable level for me. Anymore and I think I would have felt really disappointed with myself.

So, how did I get on? Did I gain weight? Here is the low-down!

The Slimming World (or not!) food I ate

Firstly, after the last weigh-in the day before Christmas Eve, I was so pleased that I had lost a stone and a half that I went to Lidl and bought a triple chocolate cookie and a Nutella doughnut. No, I am not proud of myself for doing that but I felt that I bloody deserved it! That said, I didn’t actually enjoy it as much as I thought I would!

That evening, we went out for a family meal with Ross’ parents after going to the Family Christmas Disco at Westlands in Yeovil. I was pretty good in the fact that I chose Prawn Cocktail, followed by Salmon in Hollandaise sauce with boiled potatoes and veg. I had a glass of red wine too – which was lovely. On returning home, I had two glasses of gin – one Sloe and one Damson – and they were gorgeous too!

The next day, Christmas Eve, I mainly stayed on plan. On Christmas Day morning, we had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and, after that, the gloves were off! Christmas dinner, chocolates, wine, ice cream and brandy butter BUT I did make sure that the vegetables, potatoes, bread sauce and cauliflower cheese were all Slimming World recipes. The next day was similar but we also broke open the cheese. I didn’t really meal plan after that, which was probably my downfall.

On the Sunday, the day before New Years Eve, we went up to my mums. When we arrived we had roast beef and I was pretty good. The next day I had a photo shoot in Guildford. Afterwards I met my mum and Grace and we had a meal in Wagamamas. Using the Slimming World app, I chose the Steak and Shitake salad for 4 syns.

New Years Eve, I cooked the Risi E Bisi for everyone but, after that, the gloves were off once again for chocolate and Apperini Spritzer cocktails! The following day there was a buffet for my family at my mums to celebrate New Year and Grace’s birthday – with a gorgeous chocolate Rolo cake!

On Grace’s birthday, we ate at Wetherspoons and I chose Teriyaki noodles for around 6 syns. In the evening, I had stir fry and Ross and Grace ate separately. From that point on, it was either stir fry or vegetable soup for me. I also had Mediterranean Vegetable tart. I didn’t even have any of Grace’s birthday cake at her party on the Friday!

One of the things I did find was that I was having the odd chocolate here and there, thinking it would be OK. Wrong!

Favourite Discoveries of the Week

The Slimming World Pork, Squash and Sage sausages are delicious! Even Rex loves them. Plus, at the moment, Iceland are offering a free pack of doughnut-style Mueller Light yoghurts when you buy 3 Slimming World products worth over £3 each.

How I felt

I have to admit that the day after Boxing Day, I felt absolutely rotten. My mouth tasted rubbish, I felt uncomfortable and angry and pretty useless.

As a result, it has helped me to realise that sugar is a really addictive substance. I don’t think that I had fully appreciated this until that very moment.

Despite that, my body carried on craving more and now, thanks to fruit and similar other foods, I have weaned myself back off it again.

Unfortunately, at the end of last week, I had a bad chest and felt really poorly last Saturday. I seem to be over the worst of it now though.

Exercise

There was some general walking and running around over Christmas but definitely not enough. I am pleased to say that Ross bought me some Kettle Bells as a present so the new regime will be brought in next week. I am giving myself this week to fully recover from the illness but I have started my walking into town again – and back up the hill with heavy food shopping!

The Slimming World meeting

It was great to be back and seeing all the familiar faces – as well as lots of new ones. I knew that group would be busy after the Christmas break but I hadn’t appreciated how busy! There were around 40 of us there last night and I have to say that it was really helpful. Not just in the fact that I didn’t feel alone, but also because Becs took us through the new pack, which we received just before Christmas, with a new members talk. This has really helped me to get re-focused.

I decided to buy the Take 5 recipe book which will make meal planning for everyone much easier in the coming weeks – especially as there are some really lovely recipes in there.

I knew that I would be in for a gain and prepared myself for the worst. Details are below.

Weigh-in

Weight at the beginning of my diet: 195.5lbs

Weight on 23rd December: 172lbs

Target weight: 156lbs

Weight this week: 176lbs

Gain for the week: +4lbs

Total Loss so far: 19.5lbs

My thoughts

Of course I am disappointed I got a gain of 4lbs but it is not the end of the world. I was very realistic going into Christmas that I was prepared to put on weight and enjoy myself with my family without worrying and I did this with bells on! So, I am not going to beat myself up about it.

I have started meal planning again. I had the King Prawn Jambalaya from the Take 5 book last night – with some left over for lunch today – plus a plan for the rest of the week. I am determined to get rid of that gain!

My goals for the next week

As I said above, I am meal planning again for this week to help me get back on plan and then, the week after, I shall be bringing in the exercise properly.

I am determined to make 2019 a great year!
