This week’s Prose For Thought is dedicated to the most important person in our lives – Mum.
My Mum is a complete and utter rock. I am the eldest of 7 children and everyday I wonder how on earth she did it! She has been through so much in her life. As well as having us lot, she lost her Mum at a very early age, cared for her Dad every day for 10 years when he was suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, she has been diagnosed with breast cancer – twice – and on the second occasion had a mastectomy. I remember being so upset and all she could say was ‘It’s ok, I’ve got another one’! To top it all, my father was awful to her (I won’t go into detail).
So Mum, I want you to know that everything I’ve learnt about being a Mum, I’ve learnt from you – my perfect example. This one’s for you.
My Mum
A woman like you, there is no other
Caring for me, my sisters and brothers
My Mother
Ferrying us around, we were carefree
All you probably wanted was a cup of tea
Mum’s taxi
Keeping us afloat, we have you to thank
Without your help we might have sank
Mum’s bank
Of sick bucket, you were always bearer
For all of us – you couldn’t be fairer
Our Carer
Without you we’d have ended up in a hearse
Can I use that word in amongst this verse?
Our Nurse
With you around there’s nothing to fear
Conversations with you I’ll always hold dear
A listening ear
You’ve been through more than most people know
If you were scared, you put on a good show
My Hero
I want you to know you’re my number one
A love that binds us, never undone
My Mum
