The Perfect Day – Day 17 of National Poetry Writing Month #NaPoWriMo

I am a bit later with my day 17 of National Poetry Writing Month but I had a day full of inspiration. We spent the afternoon at the coast. It wasn’t really planned and sometimes I think those are the best ones. The weather was beautiful as was West Bay near Bridport in Somerset. This was our first visit and, as it is only about 25 minutes away, it certainly won’t be our last. This poem, ‘The Perfect Day’, sums it up.

The Perfect Day

The perfect day, it’s just for us
A walk, some laughter – no fights or fuss
Blue skies, sunshine all the way
To the beach we find our way

Silly faces, camera snapping
Seagulls crying, wings are flapping
Fish and chips on the harbour wall
Arcades, pennies watch them fall

Ice cream – 30 different flavours
With eyes wide, our tongue it savours
Down to the sea, too cold for swimming
Instead, we find a stone for skimming

On the way back, to the playground
Kids all shouting, a happy sound
Back to the car, we’re on our way
The perfect end, to the perfect day
