Tommy’s 2019 Splashathon with Water Babies
One of my favourite days of the week is Thursday. It is the day when Rex and I get some quality time together and venture to our Water Babies class in Axminster and this week, it is our first Splashathon in support of the charity, Tommy’s.
I always feel close to Rex when we are in the water together. It has built up a mutual trust between us and firm bond and I firmly believe that it is one of the reasons he has become a bit of a mummy’s boy!

About the Splashathon 2019
Water Babies are inviting existing members to attend their local class for a special fundraising, Peppa Pig pirate and princesses themed class. Everyone is being encouraged to dress up, and there will be lots of water-based fun, including a challenge to swim the Splashathon width in fancy dress – a splashy width of your pool in a way that’s suitable for your little one’s ability. In return, they are asking for all the Water Babies swimmers to be sponsored to help towards raising £1 million for Tommy’s.

About Tommy’s

Every year, 1 in 4 women lose a baby during pregnancy or birth. Water Babies and Tommy’s are committed to reducing this very sad statistic that devastates families up and down the country. So every mum, dad and baby taking part in the Tommy’s Splashathon will be helping other families who aren’t so lucky. Every pound raised will help towards saving babies’ lives. The charity is hoping to raise £1 million this year.

What Tommy’s means to me
Losing a baby is one of the most heartbreaking things any parent will ever go through and, to me, it doesn’t matter what stage you are at.

When I had a miscarriage almost 6 years ago, I started on a downward spiral which I found it hard to get out of. It was the start of a very, long dark road and lots of health issues as a result of the heartbreak I had. You can imagine then, how hard I found it when there was another miscarriage just over a year later, followed by a failed IVF attempt.
Knowing that Tommy’s are funding research into stillbirth, premature birth and miscarriage, and providing information for parents-to-be makes the heartache a little easier to bear.

How you can help raise the money
You can contribute to this very worthy cause by either visiting the Tommy’s fundraising page or, if you would like to sponsor Rex personally then you can go across to this page: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/RexSplashaton2019
If you would like a bit more fun along the way, then why not take this quiz developed by Water Babies and Tommy’s and featuring the Water Babies mascot, Bubba the Whale.
