The Next Chapter
Yesterday I wrote about my thoughts after four years of blogging in my little space on the very big internet. This is the inspiration for my poem today.
The Next Chapter
Four years ago I had the notion
Of putting my poetry in motion
A place where people came to read
If and when they feel the need
If I’m honest, I did succumb,
All the hours I sat on my bum,
To thinking that people wouldn’t read
Let alone look at my Twitter feed
So, now, on occasion, they still do
Some months a lot and some just a few
Documenting my thoughts and some of my life
Although, at the moment, it’s not so rife
I see some of my peers, their blogs are rising
Others continue but start downsizing
But many are there, still carrying on
The love for their writing just hasn’t gone
I wonder what the next chapter holds
As I watch my life and how it unfolds
Read this back in another four years
Hopeful for laughter and fewer tears

Love this, it really resonates with me, and where I find myself now with my blog. I think our blogs naturally evolve and change, just as we do. Accepting that leads to a happier place, and more fun with our writing. I love how my blog has changed as my life has changed. I do sometimes wish I’d taken screenshots!
At the moment I’m wondering if I should move to WordPress, although I would worry about losing readers. Also I find WordPress really horrible to work in, but the end result looks so much more professional!

Amen to that re the laughter and tears! This poem sums up blogging very well for me too. A lot of us who have been blogging for a long time have eased off a bit, even though we still love to write. Here’s to the next four years!

Blogging is such a funny old thing. I must be coming up to my third anniversary and in some ways I’ve got nowhere at all and in others, have achieved more than I ever hoped or intended to. I think we all have to find our own path through the bloggosphere whether it’s a little winding one or a huge highway. You’ve created a lovely one paved with poetry, passion and positivity. xxx

I often find myself in the same position as you, so this line rings so true: “So, now, on occasion, they still do Some months a lot and some just a few…” I’ve been blogging for a little over 3 years, and I often wonder did I change or did my readers? Perhaps it’s a little bit of both. Just like you, I’m thankful for those who read consistently and support constantly. Thank you for sharing this with us this week!
