Smoby Make Waterplay Fun with the AquaPlay Lockbox

We were sent the Smoby AquaPlay Lockbox in return for an honest review

I admit, I am not the biggest fan of messy play but when I saw this fantastic product from Smoby, I saw a way to make waterplay fun without the mess!

The Smoby Aquaplay Lockbox in it's packaging.

Who are Smoby?

Smoby was established in France back in 1924. Their products are manufactured in one of the Europe’s most modern toy factories in an area of 40,000 square meters.

Smoby are multispecialists when it comes to childrens toys and cate for preschool, role play, dolls & accessories, art & craft, outdoor games, wheeled toys and table football. They want to ensure that kids are able to use imaginary play, creating their own stories. Smoby toys help to develop imaginations and solve needs for children and adults alike.

The AquaPlay Lockbox

This fabulous water playset comes with plenty of features and ways to help your child learn. Of course, with it being rather cold and wet right now, it has become a bit of an inside toy thanks to a hardwood floor and a couple of towels – but thankfully, Rex didn’t make too much mess!

This set is easy to construct once you have fixed the rubber pieces onto the joints for the box (no one likes leakage!). Simply click the two sides of the box together and then add in the accessories.

Included with the Aquaplay Lockbox is Wilma the Hippo who is there to encourage children to play and have some water fun. All you need to do is help to guide his boat through the waterways to transport some cargo to the docking area. There is also the inclusion of a working pump which, when operated by small hands, changes the water level in the lock – just like a real canal!

There is also a watermill, a working crane used to load and unload cargo and also a truck which can be used in the water too. Throw in a few gates and you are off!

Encouraging Children’s Skills

Playing with water is great for your child’s sensory skills and the Lockbox even assists in the understanding of cause and effect, showing little ones engineering in action. But we are looking forward to a warmer spring and summer for some outside water fun!

Easy to Store

One of the things that really impressed this grown-up is how it is to empty out the water, place all the accessories inside the Lockbox, fold it and lock it up until you are ready to play again. The yellow gates double up as holders to keep all the contents inside and there are 4 easy-to-use red plastic clips to make sure it stays intact.

Our Thoughts

This is a fantastically thought-out product and has a number of working parts which are great for kid’s imaginations as well as helping them to understand basic science in the form of cause and effect. Definitely great for outside play so bring on the summer!
