Little Tikes Fantastic Firsts Range
With Grace approaching 12 years old and Rex at 16 months, I have had my fair share of ‘firsts’ upon becoming a mum.
I can often hear my mum when I’m saying things to either of my two these days. One of the things that really brought it home to me was something my brother recently said to me when I was visiting my mum.
Rex was doing something a little precarious and I said to him my usual ‘careful’ using the tone my mum always did! What I hadn’t realised was that I had used it on my younger brothers and sisters! I am 13 years older than my youngest brother and regularly babysat as they got older. I hadn’t realised how much I had used it until I said it to Rex and my brother reminded me!

Marking the ‘firsts’ when becoming a mum
I used a few milestone cards when I was pregnant and when Rex was first born. Now, Little Tikes have shared their new milestone cards with me, which you can use to share your ‘firsts’ as a mum.
One of the many things I love about being the mum of a boy means that I am experiencing things slightly differently to when I had Grace. His firsts seem to be a lot slower but he definitely likes to think and study more before he does things. It doesn’t stop me feeling proud when he does reach his next milestone and I love to watch him mastering new skills.
At the moment he is working on his walking. Despite the fact that he is behind the rest of the postnatal group in picking it up, in typical Rex style, he will do it when he is good and ready! He much prefers to be walking around on his knees at the moment!
One of the things he has been mastering is the use of his voice. He seems to be a lot chattier than most of the children I have met at his age (something to do with his parents I think!) and he is constantly trying to pick words up. I am certain that it won’t be long before our conversations become less about babble and more about a proper conversation.
Fantastic Firsts Range from Little Tikes
To help little ones go through their various development stages, Little Tikes have introduced a brand new Fantastic Firsts range of toys to encourage them to learn through play. We were sent two of those items for Rex to enjoy and he has had a great time using them.
Firstly there is Fantastic Firsts Sleepy Stacker. This is a 9 piece set featuring a bird, a bear and a bunny. These stack either in their colours to make 3 individual animals or can be stacked together make one very tall one! Their eyes close as the head pieces are taken off, but they wake up again once they are back on the stack. That is, unless you are Rex, who is much more interested in getting frustrated with the mechanics underneath!
There are many different ways a little one can enjoy them including building, stacking, pretend play and matching the colours. Also, they have sounds and textures which make them suitable for 6 months plus.
The second toy we were sent was The Singing Sorter. Unfortunately the ‘singing’ on the first one wouldn’t work – but they sent us another very quickly. The cute pull-along caterpiller has sections of it’s body holding a different shape which include a circle, square, triangle, heart and star. Their colours also correspond to the ones on the body.
As you pull the caterpillar along, not only do the shapes jump up and down but the music plays – and stops when the caterpillar does – making it a constant source of fascination for Rex at the moment. With the added bonus that he loves shape sorters!
