OXO Masterchef Mealtime Magic and a Recipe for a Steak Marinade
I was so pleased when I found out that we had been selected by Britmums to take part in the OXO campaign and was rather looking forward to getting out our brand new barbecue that we had bought last year. I had great plans for yesterday…Friday… I was going to unpack the barbecue, put up our lovely OXO bunting on our decking, get out some chairs and a table and sit out there with a cocktail or 3 whilst the meat was marinading…but then, this happened…
Gutted! BUT in this country it is always essential to have a back-plan! And I did! As a family we have really enjoyed sitting down watching Masterchef on the iplayer with our dinner (so much so, that as part of my birthday present, Ross is treating me to a meal at the Casterbridge restaurant cooked by Mat Follas, the 2009 winner). Due to various commitments over the past week we haven’t got round to seeing the final so what better way to celebrate than OXO style?
I prepared the marinade for the steaks and then put them in the fridge for an hour (I used the recipe card sent to me from OXO and it is GORGEOUS so I am going to share this at the end of my post), I then prepared some chicken legs by coating them with the OXO Southern Fried Shake and Flavour together with some flour. I browned them off in a pan and then put them in the oven for 40 minutes to cook. Instead of potato wedges, I opted for sweet potato wedges – a healthier option, I boiled them to make them soft, placed them in a roasting pan and sprinkled them with the OXO Garlic and Herb Shake and Flavour before putting them in the oven for 35 minutes to roast.
Whilst all the food was cooking, I decorated the lounge with our OXO bunting and I have to say it looked rather fab! The finishing touch was the flowers I had received that day. Then onto the cocktails!
OXO had kindly sent us an Asda supermarket voucher where I had bought all out meat and, whilst browsing around the alcohol section I spotted these:
A complete bargain at £1 each and they do other flavours too! So, I used the rather lovely new jar glass to put it in (I let Grace use the other one for her glass of coke).
Once the steaks had marinaded I put them under the grill for 3 minutes each side and was then ready to dish up.
We all sat down together and enjoyed the most wonderful meal whilst watching the Masterchef final. All 3 of us were rooting for Ping to win – and she didn’t disappoint!
The verdict on the new Shake and Make flavours? Brilliant! We loved them. In fact, I am using them again for dinner tonight 🙂 Ross kept thanking me for a fabulous meal as did Grace. The steaks were my favourite and tasted gorgeous – even if I do say so myself!
Here is the recipe for the OXO Chilli Garlic and Thyme Steaks:
[yumprint-recipe id=’4′]This post is part of a BritMums project with OXO Shake & Flavour. Shake & Flavour seasoning granules can be sprinkled into food during cooking or before serving. Find out more about the Shake & Flavour varieties. You can find OXO on Facebook.
We were sent an OXO Summer Starter Kit with OXO Shake and Flavour, a recipe tin, summer drinks mason jars and straws, OXO vintage garden bunting and a £15 supermarket voucher. OXO Shake and Flavour is a handy shaker pack filled with fine seasoning granules that can either be sprinkled into food before or during the cooking process or added as a finishing touch before serving.
