Our Vita Coco Kids Picnic Challenge and Grace’s Recipe for Sunflower Bread
Over the last couple of weeks here in Somerset the weather has been rather rubbish! So, when the rather superb people at Vita Coco Kids sent us a cool picnic hamper, we weren’t quite sure what to do about a picnic. But then we had an idea. What better place than our own front room?!
Our lounge is the place where we have made lots of happy memories and, although it isn’t a public space, it is ours. Somewhere we all feel close.
We had enough space inside to blow up some balloons and spread the picnic blanket across our coffee table. We still had the previous week’s Doctor Who to watch so our entertainment was all lined up. Next on the agenda was the food prep.
Grace had been learning at school all about bread in time for their Harvest Festival service and had even had a go at making some. She had brought home the recipe so she was keen to show off her skills at home. As we already had the ingredients, we agreed that she could make some for our picnic with my help.
Grace started by putting all her ingredients together and mixing it to form her dough. We left it to prove for an hour whilst we prepped the rest of the food for our picnic. We put the sausages in the oven, cut up the pork pies and laid out the picnic table.

Vita Coco Kids drinks come in Apple and Blackcurrant and Mango and Pineapple flavours. I have written before about the nutritional values but I have to say that this drink has become a firm favourite in our house. Grace regularly drinks it and takes a carton in her lunch box and I am more than happy to encourage this.
As for the food, as you can see one of us couldn’t wait to tuck in!

That looks like the very best sort of picnic, especially with Doctor Who as entertainment! I’m very impressed by the bread too, I remember my first attempt at making bread (as an adult too!) – it came out flat as a pancake! Thankfully I have improved a little these days 🙂
I really have picnic basket envy! We love making our own bread, well done Grace. We often have indoor picnics too, well, you can’t take the tv to the park can you 😉
