I have now written two posts about the In It Together South Somerset, their exercise scheme and my experience with Beginners Zumba. Last week I joined in with a walking class. Not only was it free, there was also the bonus of a lovely sunny day walking with a group of lovely, friendly women.
Details of the Walking Group from In It Together
We were advised that the walk would take around an hour and will have a few challenging hills, that were more than achievable at a slow steady pace. We were told to wear suitable footwear and something that you can move easily in. The sessions will be outdoors in all weathers as long as it is safe and that we should bring a drink.
We met with our guide, Fran Stephens, in the Chilton Grove car park at Yeovil Recreation Centre. There were around 8 of us – and everyone was suitably impressed that I would also be pushing Rex in his pushchair!
We took in some lovely countryside and, to start with, our walk was downhill. The way back, of course, was uphill but thankfully not quite as steep as I was lead to believe given the beginning of the walk! I have to say, I was puffed out though – especially pushing Rex (who by that point was asleep after crying for the first 15 minutes!).
In total we did 4.87km and it took us an hour and 10 minutes. Unfortunately I couldn’t make this week’s session – but I will be back next week. The class is running for a total of 6 weeks.

Continuing with Exercise
I have to say that all of these classes are such a great way to get moving and motivated. They are inexpensive, women only (which helps if you are someone who might feel intimidated) and because, they are all beginner level, you don’t feel out of your depth if you are returning to exercise.
With the fact that I am now starting a new diet next week (more details to come!) which includes some exercise DVDs, I am going to need to make use of these classes more than ever. I am determined to get back to a good level of fitness before I have to start running after a toddler again!
There are plenty of different classes available in many areas of South Somerset including Chard, Yeovil, Crewkerne, Wincanton with different types of exercise including Zumba, power hoops, walking, fitsteps dance, running and squats with tots for those with children. To find out more about all the beginners exercise that is available nip over to the In It Together Facebook page. They are very responsive and are happy to answer any questions you might have.
