Yesterday I shared with you my most memorable posts of the year so today, as it is normally Prose for Thought day, I thought I would share with you my 6 most memorable poems of 2016

Back in April I took part in NaPoWriMo which meant writing 30 poems in 30 days. I had done it before and, this time, I was a little worried that I might struggle. No problems though! I managed to get into a groove and actually found it easier as the month went on. There are a couple from this challenge listed below as well as others I have written throughout the year.

Milestone

The first poem was using a prompt from Sara at Mum Turned Mom. A Milestone denotes a significant event or stage in the development of something but it is also a stone set up beside a road to mark the distance in miles to a particular place. In this poem I look at the many milestones the actual milestone must have seen! 

For the Love of Blogging

This poem was written on day 19 of NaPoWriMo and I am rather proud of it as it got picked to be read at BritMums Live as one of the Blogger’s keynotes. I think it speaks for itself! 

Advice for my Daughter

Grace has long been a source of inspiration for my poetry. Whenever she is away, I start to think what it will be like when she has grown up and gone. I would like to help her not make the same mistakes as me when it comes to choosing a partner, so that is what I based this poem on.

These Days Are Fading

I don’t know why, but I got extremely emotional when Grace left her last school. I kept crying at her Leavers Service at the church and did the same at her Leavers Assembly. I had to get some of the emotion out and did so in this poem.

A Poem to my Father

This was written on day 11 of NaPoWriMo using their Day 9 prompt where the challenge was to write a poem that included a line that you’re afraid to write. This might be because it expresses something very personal that makes you uncomfortable – either because of its content, or because it seems too emotional or ugly or strange. I wrote one for my estranged father.

Take What You Need

Having just returned from Spain and our fertility treatment, I was willing our embryo on and hoping that it would survive. I once again used my poetry to help express my feelings and I think that this says it all for any mother in early pregnancy.
