Beginners Fitness Classes with In It Together South Somerset

Way back in the Christmas holidays, I knew that I had to start a new exercise and diet regime come the New Year. I put on A LOT of weight during my pregnancy and didn’t exactly eat healthily (hello chocolate bars and hot cross buns!!). Whilst scrolling through Facebook it did that usual thing where it seemed to read your mind. Low and behold the In It Together South Somerset initiative flashed up on my newsfeed.

In It Together South Somerset

In It Together is an initiative offered by South Somerset council which gives women and girls the opportunity to get back into fitness by offering beginners sporting activities. These include badminton, tennis, netball, running, hockey, exercise classes and cycling.

All of the classes are geared towards beginners so there is no need to feel self-conscious.

Starting Zumba

I hadn’t done exercise since before I became pregnant – and even that was very limited. We have a treadmill and exercise equipment in our garage so I didn’t really have an excuse. I did make sure that I used the crosstrainer when we stayed in Spain whilst waiting for our IVF treatment – and I managed over an hour on that somehow!

When you haven’t exercised in some time, it is easy to feel intimidated when you turn up to a class where every one else seems to be far fitter than you as well as knowing exactly what they are doing. The benefit of In It Together is that the start of all their classes are for beginners who have either never exercised or are new to that particularly form of workout.

I had never tried Zumba before, even though I had always heard good things. I love dance and music so, when I did attend at the end of January, I had a feeling that I would love it.

My Thoughts on the Beginners Zumba Class

This course ran for 8 weeks. I have to admit that I was a little concerned going in but I needn’t have worried. Everyone was in pretty much the same boat as me when it came to the exercise. It was great to see a good mix of age ranges as well as fitness levels.

Watch carefully, and you may see a familiar face!

Our instructor, Sarah Hicks, was not only a seasoned pro at Zumba instruction but she made the whole class fun and entertaining. She is very enthusiastic and never stops smiling. We all used to jest at some of the faces she made – and she made fun of us back in a very encouraging way.

I did have to miss two classes along the way due to other commitments and I have to say that I felt it when I did miss out – on a fitness level front. I was really pleased that you only paid for the classes you took. They were a real bargain too. The first class was free – just to make sure you liked it – then the rest were £3 per 45 minute session. This is because the council are funding the initiative and your money goes to pay the instructor.

Other exercise opportunities with In It Together

There are plenty of different classes available in many areas of South Somerset including Chard, Yeovil, Crewkerne, Wincanton with different types of exercise including Zumba, power hoops, walking, fitsteps dance, running and squats with tots for those with children. To find out more about all the beginners exercise that is available nip over to the In It Together Facebook page. They are very responsive and are happy to answer any questions you might have.

This is a collaborative post.
