A huge increase in interest in electric vehicle charging has sped up development of new green jobs and productivity post-pandemic.

With the UK being primed to become a global leader in climate action and looking to accelerate delivery on electric vehicle charging points and introduce a net-zero mobility credit scheme, alongside government funding of a UK-based gigafactory to manufacture batteries.

With the facility looking to be up and running in 2021, a boost in jobs and protection to the UK auto industry is expected to bring about solid job security and environmentally friendly products to the long overdue auto trade.

This has seen a focus for people to take up electrical training courses, specifically in focus of EV charging, in order to join a soon to be prosperous work force as the country undergoes the requirement. It is expected that the installation of electric vehicle charging stations will be a huge scale project requiring many fully trained installers over years.

Currently, fully qualified electrician courses offer intensive training over 25 days to begin the journey of becoming a certified installation specialist. Courses do not require prior qualifications and are targeted to new entrants to industry. Initial assessments are free and are open to those wishing to pursue a career in the sector.

Naturally with interest high in this particular area of electrical installation due to its increasing demand, many forward thinking individuals are preparing themselves in preparation to have a solid workflow upon becoming qualified, with the expected boom to introduce no end of initial installations in target areas.

After a five week course to display knowledge, competency and achieve the qualifications of a certified electrical installer, you can find yourself collecting a lion’s share of this new area of business whilst others play catch up.

And it is not just cars that are getting the electric makeover, with Stagecoach recently implementing a new fleet of 32 fully electric double decker buses throughout Manchester, which require two charging points and can recharge a full bus within three and a half hours.

Locations for charging stations have been growing in a variety of locations from leisure centres to railway stations, meaning that workloads for the installation of stations is set to triple as more and more venues adopt the new greener technology.

With the need for electric vehicles now being at the forefront of planning throughout the UK, it’s a safe bet that more training courses will see an influx of interest in joining a rapidly lucrative industry.

Many electrician apprenticeship organisation can also offer a number of smart meter apprenticeships and green energy apprenticeships which are at the forefront of domestic electrician training programmes.
