‘An Ode to Autumn’ – A Poem for the November Center Parcs Family Challenge

Yes, we entered the Center Parcs Video Challenge to become one of the 12 Center Parcs Family Bloggers. No, we didn’t win but we did have fun trying!  So when I saw that the November Center Parcs Family Challenge was to write a poem inspired by Autumn, how could I resist?! This one is right up my street – most people know that I’m a bit of a poet and, if you don’t, well now you know it! 😉

Emma Tapp, the resident nature expert and Conservation Ranger at Whinfell Forest, Center Parcs, offers her tips on how to enjoy Autumn and our favourite one is ‘Have fun!’ Because how could you not?! Leaves to kick in, conkers to collect, Halloween to dress up for, fireworks to ‘ooh’ and ‘aah’ over, Movember for men to raise money for a worthy cause and then, Autumn ends on 20th December,  with Christmas to look forward to 5 days later!

I don’t need too much to inspire me to write a poem but there is plenty of events throughout Autumn to help my literary creation. I’ve tried to incorporate many significant Autumnal events which I always find are all the big build up to Christmas. Here is our poem and I hope I’ve been able to reflect this.

An Ode to Autumn

When Autumn time again comes round
Leaves less on trees, more on the ground
They turn to shades of red, gold and brown
And the days are not so warm

Autumn starts come end of September
Which gives you plenty to remember
School term almost til November
And the days are getting cold

October is a month of fear
As Halloween is drawing near
‘Wooo’, listen, is that a ghost I hear?!
And the days are getting short

November come with bangs and crashes
As fireworks light the sky with flashes
Men are growing some mighty ‘taches
And the day is getting near

As Autumn gets closer to its end
The people they all start to spend
And write the cards, all ready to send
And the day is getting close

Ends 20th December, did you know?
By then, sometimes, we’ve had the snow
And Christmas lights they start to glow
And the day is almost here.
