Playmats for Children from Teacherboards

When I was a child, I can distinctly remember my younger brother having a car mat. We would regularly use it to make up games with his cars as well as build LEGO houses on the outskirts of the town (mat) so that the residents could visit other areas. It was a great way of encouraging imaginative play.

Encouraging Imaginative Play for Rex

Roll on a considerable number of years and I wanted to make sure that Rex gets the same opportunity that not only my siblings got, but also the ones Grace received to be able to make up games and use his imagination. I have found some great playmats online which would suit him down to the ground. Plus, I get to re-live my childhood a little and use the mats myself!

What I was really pleased about in respect of the playmats from Teacherboards was that I had a number of different options of what to order. There is a road mat at 150 x 100cm, two different sized alphabet mats, a farm, a railway and a numbers mat.

I decided on the road mat and the farm. I hadn’t realised that the farm came in a quirky-shaped tractor but it adds on to the road mat quite nicely and, when Rex gets a little bigger, it will make a lovely neighbouring property!

Each mat comes in an eye-catching, colourful design. They are made of soft polyester material, are very comfortable to sit on (I have done this a few times now!) and they have an anti-slip rubber backing.

Grace and I have had fun choosing which house we would live in on the road map and, already, Rex is taking an interest in the colours and design of the road map. I have no doubt that the farm mat will follow.

It may seem a bit ‘old school’ to some people but I would much rather Rex was using his imagination and playing with a mat on the floor than sitting on a tablet following instructions.
