AD | 10 Mealtime Milestones for Kids to Master During Lockdown

This is a sponsored post in conjunction with doddl

One of the things we have looked at positively since the COVID-19 lockdown started is ways to improve some of your toddlers milestones and included in that is how Rex handles his cutlery. When doddl set us some mealtime milestones to master using their doddl cutlery set, we knew that it would help progress his eating skills.

Rex has had his own set of cutlery for a while now but I have always thought that the knife was a bit, well, suspect. There is no way I can see him cutting anything with it, so it was a pleasant surprise to see that the one in the doddl cutlery set looked like a useful implement!

The #MealTimeMilestones Challenge

The tests for Rex were right up his street. I have seen him eat yoghurts and cereal with his spoon so I was interested to see how he would get on with the doddl spoon. He looked far more at home with it than his usual set and was happy to carry on eating using it.

Next up, the fork. He has mastered most of these milestones already and steadily, over time, he has managed to balance food and get it up to his mouth. I sincerely believe that the handle on his doddl fork is going to make mealtimes much less stressful for him given the grip he now has on his fork – and the situation!

Finally, I have never bothered to give him the knife with his old cutlery set. To me it just looked like something to practice holding rather than being something useful which would cut his food. Not so with the doddl knife!

I had to show him a little how to handle it and he gave it a good go. He was a little surprised when he tried to put food in his mouth. It is a little sharp – but nothing a child’s mouth can’t handle. I feel that it is important for him to learn life lessons and doddl are certainly helping with that.

So, where is Rex on the mealtime milestones challenge? Well, I can safely say that he is up to milestone number 8 – and 9 is definitely within his sights.

Who are doddl?

Encouraging independent eating for kids, doddl make cutlery to help mealtimes become that bit easier. Doddl cutlery is made with little hands in mind. The Company was formed in 2013 when Cat, their Managing Director, found mealtimes with her 3 young children under the age of 2 very stressful.

Multi award winning and approved by experts, doddl cutlery helps children enjoy eating independently and is the perfect solution for babies, toddlers and young children alike.

How does Doddl Cutlery Work?

Standard children’s cutlery is a smaller version of adult cutlery but it doesn’t cater for a young child’s limited dexterity and coordination. Long slim handles are difficult for kids to control which makes it incredibly awkward to use cutlery and difficult for them to feed themselves successfully. Cat realised that children needed cutlery that was easy to use and specifically designed for their small hands. The concept of Doddl was born!

WHy We recommend Doddl

I have to say that I am really impressed. I was going to forget about helping Rex in how to use a knife until a little later. He is now excited to use his doddl cutlery every mealtime and, as a plus, I can see an end to cutting his food up for him much sooner than I had anticipated.
