Fossil Hunting on the Jurassic Coast

Grace has always been interested in fossils and precious stones ever since I can remember. When we moved to Somerset, very close to Lyme Regis and other locations on the Jurassic Coast, it was like a dream come true for her!

If you haven’t heard of it, the Jurassic Coast has been a World Heritage Site since December 2001. It is situated on the southern coast of England and stretches from Exmouth in Devon all the way to Studland Bay in Dorset. In total it covers around 96 miles. This takes in some of my favourite locations in the UK.

We have regularly visited Lyme Regis to go fossil hunting and we also cover Portland in Dorset a lot as that is where Ross’ parents live. There are plenty of fossil exhibits and museums and one of the best places to look for fossils is Charmouth which is just up the road from Lyme Regis. It is a very large and safe beach, perfect for any age. In fact, there plenty of great places to go fossil hunting in Dorset.
