Butlins Minehead Review 2025: Family Holiday Guide & Honest Experience

I first visited Butlins Minehead in my late teens so when Butlins launched their Ambassador programme, over 10 years ago, I applied. A number of parent bloggers were chosen to represent the brand and share their experiences but not us! I remember watching so many fellow bloggers enjoying their breaks – secretly wishing we had been lucky enough to be chosen too! We always said we would visit one day and now, we finally have! It’s been a long time coming, but it was definitely worth the wait.

You can opt for a weekend or mid-week break or longer. So, we chose a 7 day break from 25th July to 1st August 2025. There was me, Ross, my husband, and our 8-year-old son Rex. We knew we didn’t want to travel far (that way you get more time to enjoy your holiday!) So, with Butlins Minehead just an hour an a half way it was a no-brainer!

In this honest review, I’ll share everything you need to know about the accommodation, dining, entertainment, and overall family experience to help you decide if Butlins Minehead is the right choice for your next holiday.

Butlins Minehead Booking & Arrival Experience

Booking our Butlins Minehead break was a fairly smooth process through their official website. Due to Ross and his disabilities, we found it easier to ring and speak to a customer representative who was extremely helpful. As a result, we opted for the Premium Dining Plan, Early Access and VIP Pass to make the most of our week. We were notified on the week leading up to our holiday, that we would be allowed on the park at 9am instead of the usual 12pm. I am guessing that, as they were fully booked and it was the start of the summer holidays, they did this to ease the traffic and footfall.

We arrived at 11.45am and were told to drive to the West Entrance. Being in Pacific Wharf, it didn’t make much sense from what we could see! Instead of queueing up with the people who had a later check-in and were allowed in the park from 12pm, we parked up and did a walk-in check-in.

The lady who served us was very friendly and provided us with details. She suggested we drive round to Car Park 2. This made things a little complicated! As a result we were right over the other side of the park but a kindly security guard guided us through and we parked just outside our chalet. We were pleased to see that there were plenty of disabled bays available and, after a phone to confirm, we found that we were able to park there for the duration of our stay. As regular visitors to Center Parcs, this came as a welcome relief!

Accommodation at Butlins Minehead

We stayed in a Comfort Apartment. This was located in Pacific Wharf. We were on Gulfstream Drive, Chalet number 18.

We arrived at our early check-in time of 1pm, however, the chalet had not been cleaned. We informed the cleaner opposite and they confirmed that they would get it done. We decided to go and explore.

Here is a little walk-through video of our accommodation:

The apartment was fairly well-equipped. We had a small bedroom with a single bed for Rex. This included hanging space and cubby holes and a bedside table. Our bedroom consisted of a double bed with bedside lights either side, a unit containing one hanging area and cubby holes, a television and the welcome addition of a fridge! There was also plenty of room under the bed for cases and bags. We also had an iron and ironing board. The hairdryer was missing so, after a call to customer services, someone quickly showed up with a brand new one in a box!

The bathroom was pretty basic (but clean!) and had a sink, a toilet and a shower. The shower was holder was broken so we had to hold the shower head when we used it but it wasn’t the end of the world!

I need to say that the Basic WiFi IS basic!! It was quite sporadic at times – and even meant that the TV channels were not playing ball! If we wanted to access our work emails, Ross and I had to go to the Sky Pavilion. It also meant that we didn’t bother with the extra television we took with us! We did want to watch movies in the evening using our WiFi but didn’t bother and had to make do with Tipping Point, The Chase and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (the only things suitable for Rex late at night!). We also even saw some rabbits outside on our last night!

We were perfectly located. It was just a short stroll to the Skyline Pavilion and other key attractions, which made popping back for a rest very convenient. There was limited noise outside and we were very close to our dining area – which was located at The Deck and The Yacht Club.

Pros:

  • Ability to park our car nearby, which we used as storage for our empty suitcases!
  • Cleanliness was generally good (bar a couple of stains on our carpet)
  • Close proximity to dining and entertainment venues.

Cons:

  • Some noise from nearby guests in the evenings, but it quietened down by bedtime.
  • No seating area – which made bedtime a little tricky when it came to Rex!
  • The doors are heavy! Make sure you take a couple of door stops. And, if you are propping the doors open, something to put over the small window on the front door to stop light spill.

The Premium Dining Plan at Butlins

Our Premium Dining Plan was one of the highlights of the trip. With breakfast and dinner included, we were spoilt for choice with a variety of freshly prepared dishes each day. Breakfast featured a full English, continental options, pancakes, and even fresh omelettes made to order.

Dinner was equally impressive with themed nights offering everything from carvery roasts to Asian-inspired dishes. Rex loved the dedicated kids’ section with child-friendly favourites as well as copious amounts of pudding (!), while my husband and I appreciated the variety on offer. The dining venues were spacious and clean, and staff were always friendly and accommodating.

The staff were friendly and really good with Rex – letting him push the button on the tablet for each of our arrivals! Special mentions for Martyn (see, I spelled your name right!), Karaoke Joe (named because he was singing in The Deck one morning!) and Susannah.

We ate in The Deck a couple of times but in the end, our go-to area was The Yacht Club. A bit more bright and airy and much quieter!

Here are just a few of the dishes we chose:

  • Korean style chicken thighs
  • Macaroni cheese
  • Pizza – magherita, ham, pepperoni
  • Pies including chicken mushroom, chicken and vegetable, steak
  • Salads
  • Chinese which included various stir fries, egg fried rice and prawn crackers
  • Curries including chicken tikka massala, chicken korma and beef jalfrezi
  • Poppadums with various chutneys
  • Naan bread

I have to say that the choice was amazing and the food was far better than we expected. My particular favourites were the pies, fish and chips and the white chocolate and raspberry roulade with cream. We all come back home quite a few pounds heavier!!

Entertainment & Shows: Early Access Pass Perks

The Early Access Pass was definitely worth it. It allowed us to book shows in advance, guaranteeing great seats and avoiding long queues – which Ross can’t stand in due to his disability. The early access/VIP holders were able to get in 15 minutes before the main queue.

One of the biggest highlights of our week was Stephen Mulhern’s live show. We went to the 2pm and 8pm shows. Not only were the performances fantastic, but Rex had a once-in-a-lifetime moment at the 2pm show when he was invited up on stage! The smile on his face was priceless and it’s a memory we’ll treasure forever. We went told by Redcoat Sean that Rex had been picked so we went backstage before the show to meet Stephen. We had been told that there weren’t any opportunities for Meet and Greets and signings and Rex was disappointed about this as he had made a card for his girlfriend at school using confetti pieces from other shows and a shell he had found and wanted Stephen to sign it! But this was the perfect opportunity – and he did kindly sign it.

Rex did a brilliant turn on stage. He hit all the right notes and even told Stephen that he wanted his job when he was older! We do have a video – but we aren’t allowed to share it just yet as we don’t want to spoil it for others. The only slight downer that I will mention though is that during the show Rex had to press a button to spin a wheel for a prize. It said that he won a 6ft teddy bear – this was all part of the act and he did not receive a teddy bear. When an 8 year old boy who loves cuddly toys gets told that it wasn’t true that he had won one, it isn’t easy to manage! He sulked through all of dinner! When we went back to the 8pm show, we chatted with Redcoat Rubik – who was absolutely brilliant with Rex, explained everything and then distracted him with some magic!

These are the shows we attended and where they were located:

Studio 36

  • The Masked Singer Live (Saturday evening performance)
  • Animals and Mythical Beasts – The Animal Guyz (Sunday evening performance)
  • Stephen Mulhern (Wednesday at both 2pm and 8pm)
  • Electric Wonderland (Thursday at 7pm)

Centre Stage

  • Snow White and Her Magnificent Friends Pantomime (Sunday morning performance)

Reds

  • Kick Out Wrestling (Monday eveinng)
  • Night at Reds experience on Tuesday evening including: Ultimate Party Dances, Redcoat Showdown, Bingo Bango
  • Night at Reds experience on Thursday evening including: DJ Battle Gameshow, 00s Bingo Bango, Dance with Me Tonight – Olly Murs tribute act

Skyline Pavilion

  • Welcome Party (the first Friday at 7pm)
  • Billy’s Fun Fitness
  • Sarakasi Allstars

We absolutely loved everything we went to. The Pantomime was hilarious (as a Panto veteran I can totally vouch for it!). Bingo Bango was the absolute best – especially when we won a t-shirt on the Thursday night! This came about because Rex was extremely upset on the Tuesday when he was just 2 numbers from winning the big prize (an inflatable surfboard!). Redcoat Isaac suggested we go to Arts and Crafts to make a banner! Having already been to Arts and Crafts on both the Saturday and the Tuesday mornings, we were totally up for going back. It was a family affair as we all pulled together to make two banners – and it worked!

The Masked Singer Live was brilliant – but I am not allowed to give anything away! The Animal Guyz were totally entertaining, very knowledgeable and the show was wonderful. Electric Wonderland was mesmerizing!

Activities & Facilities Around the Park

Butlins Minehead is bursting with activities to suit all ages. Rex loved Splash Waterworld – he and Ross went there 4 times, including once with me – with its lazy river and water slides, the Sky Park and the Traditional Fairground, which had plenty of rides suitable for his age group.

One of the things we loved was the Family Arts and Crafts sessions. These were free and we went to 3 separate sessions. At the first, Rex made a catapult and I made a carousel, the second I made a Butlins heart and Rex made a card for his girlfriend, Lucy-Jo (see above and our experience with Stephen Mulhern) and at the third, it was all about the Bingo Bango banner! (Again, see above for an explanation!).

The Skyline Pavilion served as the hub of activity with arcades, soft play areas, and pop-up entertainment throughout the day. We had plenty of goes on the 2p drop and won some extra prizes – including a mug. We saved up our tickets from the arcade for the last morning. Which was a bit of a mistake as everyone else did the same! 750 tickets got him a Rubik cube (of course!), some silly toilet putty and a mini frisbee.

There was also some pedal carts, a couple of bars and the Circus which we didn’t try but all looked great. I heard some fantastic feedback about the circus (this costs extra at around £7.50 for adults).

There are plenty of other activities which you would have to pay for such as Ten Pin Bowling, Pool, Snooker, Darts, Laser Tag, Archery, High Ropes, Climbing Wall, Go Karts, t-shirt design and pottery.

We also tried Scoop, the ice cream, waffle and milkshake shop. This is fairly restricted on it’s opening times but we decided to treat ourselves in the afternoon on our last full day. The prices are extremely reasonable – especially given the fact that you get a sauce AND a topping included! The ice cream on the sea front was £3.60 with a flake and no other topping! Ross chose white chocolate ice cream with melted Belgian milk chocolate and fudge pieces, I had salted caramel ice cream with melted Belgian milk chocolate and smarties and Rex had honeycomb ice cream with toffee sauce and fudge pieces. They were all delicious!

We visited the Bear Factory where Rex chose a woolly mammoth. He chose the hearts to go inside (care and kindness) and then chose an outfit. It had to be a redcoat! A cuddly toy with an outfit was £28. We also visited the gift store which was fairly reasonable. T-shirts are £12. We bought a magnet (which we get wherever we visit now) which cost £3.99.

The whole park was well-maintained, with plenty of seating areas and clean toilet facilities.

Outside the Park

Within a 10 minute walk, there is a Lidl, Morrisons, McDonalds, Tesco, Brewers Fayre and Premier Inn (handy if you want to stay over the night before!).

On one of the afternoons, whilst Ross had a rest, Rex and I walked out to the beach. Pebbly with sand in places, it was a fantastic stretch. Great for climbing over rocks and flying kites. The sea was out really far, so we didn’t bother with that! We had an ice cream from one of a number of stores and also went on the play equipment on the front. I haven’t ventured into Minehead town for years but, when I did on the last day, it hadn’t changed that much. It was great to see a traditional seaside town still in full force!

Family Experience & Child-Friendly Aspects

Butlins really does cater brilliantly to families. All staff members were friendly and engaging with children, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere. There were also plenty of indoor activities available. We were lucky with the weather but can see this would come in handy on rainy afternoons.

Rex was never bored, and as parents, we appreciated how everything was within walking distance, making it stress-free to navigate with a child in tow.

We connected with a few families including Lucie and her daughter, Emily-Jane. As Rex and I are not huge fans of water flumes and rides, it meant Ross had someone to go on them with him! We sat next to each other at dinner and at shows and they were fantastic company. Also, a mention for Rosie and her family as we kept bumping into each other at the shows – and she kindly took the photos of us with Rubik!

I must also give a special mention to Rubik – who is a brilliant redcoat! He really ‘gets’ it and Rex named the Mammoth he bought in the Bear Factory shop after him.

Value for Money: Is Butlins Minehead Worth It in 2025?

Considering the quality of accommodation, abundance of food choices, top-notch entertainment, and the sheer amount of activities included, Butlins Minehead offered great value for money. The Premium Dining and Early Access Pass added convenience and enjoyment to our stay, making them well worth the upgrade. Although, when we return (yes, we will be going back!), we will probably go self-catering next time.

If you’re a family looking for a UK holiday destination packed with entertainment for kids, Butlins Minehead is a fantastic choice. It’s particularly ideal for families with primary-school-aged children who want a hassle-free, activity-filled break.
