A Review of Our Wonderful Experience with a Simba Bed

*Gifted Product*

The phrase “game changer” is bandied around far too liberally these days. It seems you can’t get on social media without seeing some post or other about a “game changing” workout… a “game changing” life hack… a “game changing” method of boiling an egg… putting aside such overegged (pun intended) hyperbole, when I say that our recently becoming the proud owners of a Simba bed frame has been a game-changer, it is said with absolutely no exaggeration. The positive impact it has had on our life in a short span of time has been nothing short of breath-taking.

The Simba Ludlow bed frame

The Ordering and Delivery of our Simba Bed

Ordering was easy and intuitive – the Simba website clearly explains the differences between their products, helping the customer make an informed decision that best fits their physical and financial requirements. The layout of the site is clean and easy to use, with fast loading enabling you to zoom around and quickly gather all the information you need.

We opted for the Simba Ludlow bed frame and chose the 4-drawer option. You could also choose no storage, 2 drawers, 4 drawers or a standard, electric or side Ottoman version. You could also opt for chrome or wooden legs.

The delivery whole process was also quick and ever so easy. Initially, we were given four different options for day of delivery. It’s nice enough to be given any option at all rather than “it will be delivered on…” but being able to choose from four different days enabled us to fit the delivery around our movements and not, as is too often the case, adjusting our plans to suit the delivery. On the actual day of delivery, we were emailed first thing to let us know roughly what sort of time the bed would be arriving. Again, in contrast to other deliveries we’ve endured previously, this was a relatively small amount of time, a two-hour window where we would need to be home, rather than the vague “afternoon delivery” we’ve all experienced elsewhere which you’re hoping will be just after midday but ends up arriving just as you’re putting the kids to bed.

The delivery team turned up promptly, towards the beginning of the window we’d been given, and were efficient and courteous. Even when offered help, they insisted on doing all the lifting themselves and the three parts of the bed, including the extremely heavy headboard, were whisked upstairs and into our bedroom with no fuss and no mess.

Setting up our Simba bed

Speaking of no fuss and no mess, let’s talk about set up. Given I’d spent more than 90 minutes of literal blood, sweat and tears in deconstructing our previous bed frame that very morning, I was apprehensive about how long it would take to get the new frame up and in situ. I needn’t have worried – it took me longer to get the protective wrapping off the three parts of the bed than it did to put the whole thing together. The lower half of the bed locks into the upper half. It was so easy, I thought I’d done it wrong… so had to disconnect it and then reconnect it before I believe that I’d done it properly. The feet are sturdy and easy to push in all the way. To say the headboard is robust would be an understatement. This one is a seriously solid piece of furniture, affixed to the frame by four heavy-duty screwed the go directly into the bed frame. Of all the beds I’ve put together in my adult life, this has been the simplest by far – and no tools required either.

Why we love our Simba Ludlow bed frame

One of the best things about the Simba Ludlow bed frame design wasn’t something we anticipated – and that is the amount of extra space it has opened up in our bedroom. Because the headboard is at a 90 degree angle to the base surface, the whole frame can be shifted up right against the wall. Because there’s no footer at the bottom of the base, where the mattress ends is where everything stops. Our previous bed frame had its headboard tilted at a gradient, as well as a matching footer beyond the mattress, all in keeping with the bed’s design and style. That was fine and looked good – had to have been or we wouldn’t have gone with it in the first place – but the new bed looks every bit as stylish (in fact, even moreso) and cuts down on at least a full foot of floor space head to toe, and another six or more inches widthwide. You wouldn’t think it makes much of a difference but, believe me, it does. The room feels so much more spacious now.

The storage options help with this too – four good sized and sturdy drawers which are actually going to be put to use for items we’ll be using regularly. While initially the Ottoman storage on our previous bed seemed appealing given the sheer amount of room this created, the comparative difficulty of accessing everything under there (“jump out of bed quickly, would you? I just need to lift the whole frame up on get something…”) meant that it essentially ended up as dumping ground rather than a practical, useful storage space. Already having access to a couple of discrete drawers has allowed us both to declutter our previously heaving wardrobes.

Which colour of Simba Bed Frame?

We were spoilt for choice when it came to the Simba Ludlow bed frame colours. We opted for the Cloud Grey as we felt it had character while remaining reasonable neutral to allow it to blend with other décor colours present and future, however we were also tempted by Moonlight as a similarly neutral colour, and Graphite or Urban Grey as bolder options which would look fabulous as the centrepiece of a room. If you are undecided though, you can always order free swatches of the different colours!

Is the Simba Ludlow Bed Comfortable?

Of course, all the style in the world means very little unless the bed ticks the biggest box of all – is it comfortable? Combined with the Simba Hybrid mattress, the answer to this is ‘extremely’. The difference between our new set up and our previous sleeping arrangement has been immediately noticeable, from the first lay-down onward, noticing that we have both begun sleeping better and some of those inevitable tweaks and twinges that start to emerge on the wrong side of forty (or twenty, in my case!) have begun to ease and even vanish.

Particularly notable is that while the Simba mattress with our previous bedframe (we got the mattress a few months before the new frame) was comfortable, it still felt like it wasn’t quite right. Now, with the Ludlow bedframe combined with the Hybrid mattress, it feels like the proverbial jigsaw is complete. Much like a great singer is enjoyable acapella but better in a band, the Ludlow bed frame enhances the mattress, offering consistent, uniform support without any sags, dips, or bumps, allowing the mattress to gently yield under the sleeper’s weight but never to the detriment of either mattress or individual.
