A Protruding Proboscis
When you have a couple of particular favourite subjects that you love to take photographs of, it is hard to find a new angle but I like to strive to do something a bit different each time. That is why, when I took photographs of this bee at the Eden Project last week, I was really pleased to finally be able to capture the bee’s proboscis – or, as we know it better, her tongue. A bees’ tongue works like a straw. Of course, bee’s need long tongues so that they can reach down into the flower to collect the nectar. She unrolls her tongue, dips it into the flower and then sucks up the nectar like you would drink from a straw.
If you are on Instagram, then don’t forget that my new Instagram linky, InstaLinkLove, is open until Sunday evening at 9.30pm (probably one of the easiest linkys out there!).

Brilliant detail! I don’t think I’ve managed to capture it so I’m really pleased to see these 🙂 xox

Such a beautiful capture Victoria, love how you captured the bee in motion 🙂
Hi Victoria, now that is a fab photo with great detail! How did you manage to get the bee to stop still for you? It does get tricky trying to find new angles on familiar things, but I think you’ve done a mighty fine job with this one. The detail really is amazing.
xx
Hi Debbie, thank you so much 🙂 I just made sure that I had the camera on the fastest shutter speed possible and then on continuous shot mode took the photo. I am so pleased you like them x
