The Great New Show ‘Kangaroo Beach’ on Nick Jr

Now that the summer holidays have started, we shall be looking for ways to keep Rex occupied before he starts school in September. He does tend to have quiet time in front of the television after lunch so I was really pleased to see that a great new show by the name of Kangaroo Beach starts this week on Nick Jr.

What is Kangaroo Beach?

Kangaroo Beach is a 26-part,11 minute animated surf-safety series for preschoolers and their families. It has been produced by Cheeky Little Media and created by Tim Bain, who has also written for PJ Masks, Go Jetters, Bluey, Fireman Sam and Bob the Builder amongst others shows which are geared towards a slightly older audience

It features four young animal friends – Pounce the kangaroo, Gemma the duck-billed platypus, Neville the wombat and Frizzy the koala. They spend an action-packed summer together at an eventful Kangaroo Beach, training as junior cadets with their lifeguard heroes. Whenever an emergency breaks out, the cadets step up to help keep the water safe.

There are many lessons to be learned from the show whilst focusing on the wonders of water and games you can play as they help to promote essential messages on water safety in each episode. It also teaches life lessons on how you should listen to instructions from grown-ups – something Rex definitely needs!

The water safety advice comes from water safety professionals and is accredited by the Swimming Teachers Association, the UK’s reputable water safety charity and the purpose of the show is to inspire children to really think first before they swim and how they need to understand safety messages.

Our Thoughts on Kangaroo Beach

We were sent a couple of episodes in advance of the debut which I sat outside to watch with Rex. He is often reluctant to try anything new but, with some encouragement, we did and he really enjoyed it (and so did I, but *shush* don’t tell anyone!). Rex tends to focus well and retain information – which seems to generate questions at a later date! He definitely takes in more than we give him credit for.

He particularly liked Frizzy the Koala and the episode about her treasure hunt. She didn’t listen to the grown-ups and got into a bit of trouble. Rex really understood this and spent some time discussing with me the fact that Frizzy should really listen to people as she got her Grandad into trouble in the water. This shows to me that not only are the characters relatable and fun but they are promoting important messages in a great way.

It is a colourful programme full of great characters and is not only the right length of time but also has enough action involved to keep children interested whilst learning really valuable lessons. Rex has asked to watch it every day since first watching it. This is definitely a positive vote for what will prove to be great timely summer viewing as families plan to get away to the coast or spend more time by the pool.
