Get Outside and Grow with Your Kids
Rex is a huge fan of the outdoors. He regularly comes to me with his ‘boofs’ (his word for shoes or boots!) at 7am raring to get outside, wherever it might be. Grace was very similar at his age. In fact, I don’t know any kids who don’t love going outside.

Why you should get outside with your kids
It has been proven that a childhood spent outdoors helps children to grow up healthier and happier, but new research shows that gardening and picking apples has become a pastime that’s is antiquated. I find that a great shame.

Whilst 87% of British households do have a garden, it’s clear growing isn’t something that families do together. You only have to look at the state of our garden prior to Rex coming along, to know that this is true.

Thanks to him, and his energy to get out there, I have made a much-needed start on making our garden a better place to be. One of those things I have done is to look at growing some plants with him. We have started with Nasturtiums and Lavender and we shall be added some herbs to the list.

Growing with your kids
Did you know that over half of British children between 4 and 8 are unable to name 5 vegetables or fruits grown in this country, with 95% unable to name 3 herbs. Many of those couldn’t identify basic gardening tools, with only 8% able to identify a trowel, 80% never having seen a rake before and, worrying, 79% believing worms are bad for plants.

Ten things to grow with your kids
If you are anything like me, you might not know where to start in choosing plants you can grow with your kids.
So, here’s a list of ten potential easy-growers…
-
Microgreens
-
Carrots
-
Strawberries
-
Parsley
-
Sunflowers
-
Mint
-
Kale
-
Tomatoes
-
Pumpkins
-
Lavender

I am rather pleased to see that we have already chosen one of these items on the list! I have also grown strawberries with Grace in the past so will definitely be adding those in too – especially as Rex loves them!

Please note that we were gifted the gardening items from Sudocrem in return for this post. All opinions have been formed by the owner of this blog. This content must not be reproduced without seeking permission first.
