Ordering Cakes Online from The Brilliant Bakers

Back in August, when Ross was fast approaching his 40th birthday, I suddenly realised I hadn’t done anything about a cake for him. He expressed that he did not want a party (unlike the massive knees-up I organised for my birthday!) so I didn’t think too hard about it – until I realised that I had ordered a special cake for the first birthday I spent with him. Of course, I had to top that! Step up The Brilliant Bakers.

Who are The Brilliant Bakers?

When I searched for birthday cakes online, the Brilliant Bakers came up. I hadn’t heard of them before, so I went straight over to take a look around and, oh my goodness, the cakes are amazing!

With hundreds of different designs to choose from, they cater for all types of events. From birthdays to anniversaries, christenings to weddings, parties to corporate events, nothing seems to be too big or too small. There are also new baby cakes, retirement cakes and Get Well Soon cakes. You can choose your theme, flavour and then add your own personalised message.

They certainly make ordering a cake easy and you can either send it direct to the recipient or order it to come to you. They order virtually anywhere in the UK and, with just a few days notice (depending on how busy they are) your cake will be with you.

What type of cakes are available?

For Ross’ 40th Birthday, I chose the record deck cake. You were able to personalise this one in a couple of different ways. As Ross is the lead singer of D-State – a local band – I chose a photograph I had taken of him at the Yeovil Beer Festival last year. Then I added the birthday message. I opted for the chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling.

The cake turned up beautifully packaged with extra decorations in the form of a ribbon around the edge, a silver streamer and some iced stars and there were also instructions on how to put the cake together as well as storage and how long it would last.

For the Winter Ridge film showing at Westlands, Yeovil, I chose the Corporate Logo Cake Tower. I decided to do this as Ross had not wanted a 40th birthday party and, because many of his friends were coming to support him, this was a perfect alternative!

The cake order included the choice of a square or round cake on the top tier with two further tiers containing 32 cupcakes. These were included in the price and you had the option to add on extras if you wanted. The other thing that impressed me about this is that you were able to have the top tier cake a different flavour to the cupcakes and then you were able to choose two different flavours again for the cupcakes if you had wanted.

I sent the film poster over for the top cake but, as this was not suitable for the cupcakes, they got in touch with me to discuss an alternative. I agreed with them to take the character section of the poster and put this onto half of the cupcakes and then I sent a photograph over of Ross with Bob ‘Hardcore’ Holly holding up Bob’s autobiography ‘The Hardcore Truth’ which Ross wrote with him.

The cake flavours I chose were a gluten-free vanilla sponge with jam and buttercream filling for the top tier and all the cupcakes were chocolate sponge which had a layer of chocolate buttercream just under the icing.

What flavour of cakes can you order?

There are 3 different flavours of cake; vanilla sponge with jam and buttercream filling, chocolate sponge cake with chocolate buttercream and a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling (which I am now very keen to try!).

Do they cater for allergies?

Yes! I was so pleased to be able to choose a gluten-free cake for the event at Westlands. I wanted to make sure that everyone was able to enjoy a piece of cake! There is no need to worry about the icing and toppings either because they are all made without wheat or gluten.

What about delivery?

Delivery is FREE across the UK between 8am – 8pm on Monday through to Friday. If you would like your cake delivered before 12.30pm then it will cost you £8. They do recommend that you choose a delivery date that is at least 1 clear day before your cake is required and, during severe weather conditions, they recommend two clear days. The great thing is that their cakes stay fresh for one week without the use of preservatives!

We had Ross’ cake delivered two days before his birthday and the Winter Ridge cake was delivered direct to the venue on the morning of the event.

What are the prices?

Ross’ birthday cake cost me £52 including delivery. It wasn’t cheap but, with the fact that it was a special birthday, I did not want to compromise on cost! I was hoping that I would get what I paid for and I am pleased to say that I did. This cake was 8 inches and served 20 people.

The corporate tower cake was £95. The top tier was once again 8 inches which meant 20 people and there were 32 cupcakes.

My thoughts

Me, Ross and Grace with a cake from The Brilliant Bakers

I do feel that it is a little risky ordering cakes for a special occasion online but I needn’t have worried. The service, the cake and, most importantly to me, the taste were all superb. Nothing seemed too much trouble, delivery was on time and the cakes were beautiful.

I have to stress is how beautifully light and tasty the cakes were. They were devoured enthusiastically in our house! We had half of Ross’ cake (after sharing it with his parents and Aunt) and the whole of the top tier of the Winter Ridge cake and, seven days later, they both still tasted amazing.

I think I will have to drop a few hints to the family to order from them in 3 years time for my 50th birthday!
