The Conception Diaries – Friday 20th January and 14 Weeks Pregnant
Following my series on YouTube, The Conception Diaries and attempts to get pregnant, our IVF baby is due in July 2017. OK, OK, I know that I said in my last update that I would ‘be back vlogging shortly’ and ‘our 14 week update should be published soon’ but unfortunately, for the past week I have been suffering with a really bad cold and cough. Best laid plans and all that! Still, I am on the mend now and this should be resolved soon!

Sunday lunch with mum and dad
After a quiet Saturday, Ross, Grace and I travelled to Salisbury to meet up with my mum and step-dad for lunch. It was a straightforward journey and was half way for each of us. I keep forgetting that there are certain things I cannot eat but I knew that I could not go too far wrong with a roast which consisted of pork belly together with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, vegetables and gravy. I quite fancied the cheesecake for pudding but my mum advised me against it and I stuck with chocolate brownie!
Ligament niggles
I have to admit that I am really hyper-sensitive about every little niggle this pregnancy – and every little non-niggle to boot! I find myself worrying if I can’t feel anything and, on Monday, I started worrying because I could feel things! (At this point, I have to add that I sound like I am worrying myself into a stupor. I am actually not, I just kind of feel like I can’t relax about my health like I could during my last pregnancy!).
What I could feel was a kind a period-like cramp under my bump. When I searched Dr Google, I found that many expectant mums were feeling similar at this stage. Mainly because the ligaments were starting to stretch. During the afternoon I also developed a spasm in the right-hand side of my abdomen. I chose to ignore it all and just carry on with my day!
A worrying cough
The following morning – Wednesday – I woke up with a rather horrible cough. Ross had already been feeling unwell and it seemed that we were both coming down with something. What with this and yesterday’s ligament happenings, I decided to call the hospital and speak to someone on Jasmine Ward. I was told I could ring anytime with concerns and they couldn’t have been more helpful. I spoke to Julie, the matron on duty and she put my mind at rest and explained a few things.
By the evening I felt absolutely wretched and didn’t know what to do with myself. I was breathing in through my mouth due to my blocked nose and swallowing lots of air so not only could I not breathe, I had really bad wind. I decided to just go to bed and try and sleep it off.
A day off
Very rarely do I take a day off on the spur of the moment but I just felt rotten. There was nothing else for it but to stay in bed all day! The only problem with doing that, is that I tend to feel guilty and worry that I should be doing something! Both Ross and I had come down with the same thing and Grace, bless her, was being very supportive of us both.
A video testimonial for IVF Spain
Whilst we are at the clinic in Alicante back in November, Ross and I agree to record a video testimonial for the clinc. They recently shared it and you can watch it too, below:
Symptoms
It has been hard to say what are symptoms and what aren’t this week with the cough and cold becoming an interfering factor! Apart from the usual, there were also the ligaments stretching as mentioned above.

I am absolutely delighted to read that you are pregnant! I’ve read your previous blogposts and know what a long journey you’ve had to get here. Huge congratulations to you all 🙂

Thank you so much Catherine xx
My ligaments have been terrible this time. It is so hard when you are worried anyway and every niggle is a worry. As soon as you feel baby moving, I find it gives you a bit more piece of mind. Your pregnancy seems to be flying by (I wish mine was) and now, I could really do with a roast 😉 Thank you for linking up #MaternityMondays
I totally agree – I didn’t notice any of this last time around! I know – it really has started to feel like it is going quickly! x
Poor you. I remember the ligament pain. It feels alarmingly like period pain so I was quite concerned for a while. I hope you feel better soon. #MaternityMondays
It is a bit worrying – but I have gotten used to it now x
It sounds like it’s been a rough week for you. I hope you feel better soon. I can totally understand you feeling guilty about resting and not being useful, but you know that rest is the most useful thing you can do for you and the baby! x
Thanks Sarah. You are totally right about the rest! x
