The Christmas Light Switch-On Tradition with Hotter Shoes
Last Friday we attended our 4th annual Christmas Light Switch-On in our town of Crewkerne. It something that is become a real family tradition for us as we have been every year since we moved here. I love the friendly atmosphere where everyone is out for the evening having some fun, partaking in some mince pies and a cup or two of Glühwein!
When we do make our annual trip, we have to do quite a bit of walking and so, when Hotter shoes offered me the chance to carry out our tradition in comfort, I was all for it!
They invited me to my local store in Taunton, to pick out some footwear especially for the occasion – and I dragged Ross along to make sure I had a second opinion.
Arriving at the store, I knew I wanted something a little different. I had just purchased a beautiful, colourful coat in reds and blues ready to wear that evening and wanted something which matched. I knew that I wanted to steer myself away from the blacks and browns which I seemed to be stuck with and go for something a little more colourful. Together with the manager, Leanne, Ross and I managed to narrow it down to two choices. Brown (I know, I know!) Belle boots or Burgundy Mystery boots.
After trying them on, I knew exactly what I was going to go for. Burgundy Mystery! Probably the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. I was lucky enough to receive a pair of boots from Hotter last year – and I have worn them pretty much all year round – but I think these are going to be my new ‘go to’s’!
That evening, Ross, Grace and I walked down into town and we bumped into plenty of people we now know. As the years have gone by, we have become more and more settled and there are now plenty of familiar faces where there were strangers before. The Rotary Club were all smiles as they were going round with their collection buckets. This is to contribute towards the decorations which include street lights, two Christmas trees complete with lights and a manger with figures on the town hall.
We paid a visit to the Christmas Craft market held inside the town hall. There are plenty of local traders selling hand-made Christmas gifts and decorations.
On the way in – and way out! – they offer up a free mince pie or piece of chocolate log and you are able to purchase Glühwein at £1 per cup.
Then, we made our way out into the square to see the arrival of the local Merriott Majorettes, twirling their batons, followed by Father Christmas who was there to switch on the lights together with the Mayor.
Count down begun and at 7pm on the dot, the lights were there in all their splendor. Christmas had once again arrived in Crewkerne.
We had a look round a few more local stalls and found only one disappointment – our yearly roasted chestnuts were nowhere to be found. I think Grace was most disappointed as she had brought a £1 with her especially. It didn’t dampen our spirits though. It is a real family occasion and, this year, thanks to Hotter Shoes I was able to walk the town in complete comfort.

I love Christmas shopping!
I bought a couple of pairs of Hotter shoes after they did their blogger campaign last year and ended up buying more – including the ones I got married in. They are very comfortable, even the heeled shoes, which as someone who lives in ‘barefoot’ styles, is not something I say very often!
The switch on looked good fun. We missed ours this year – completely forgot what day it was! 🙁
They really are amazing – I don’t wear any other brand at the moment, and that includes my slippers!
