Playing Tricks with my Size – Day 26 of National Poetry Writing Month #NaPoWriMo
Day 26, and I have to admit that I am starting to run out of steam – and ideas – although the stubborn me refuses to give up! I don’t know about you but, as I get older, I seem to go into changing rooms at shops expecting a different size to the one I am presented with. In my head I am smaller but when I come to try something on, my body plays tricks with me and gets a bit bigger! This poem is with that in mind.
Playing Tricks with my Size
Why is it that in my mind
My figure is much smaller
I have a far slighter behind
And I always seem a bit taller
The clothes I wear inside my head
Well they are figure hugging
Whilst in the changing room instead
I tug with a face that’s mugging
I don’t understand how I got this way
I’m sure it wasn’t always the case
I used to wear a 10 everyday
Plus…I always had space
Wearing clothes with so much ease
Some dresses a second skin
Now I find I can hardly breathe
And I need to hold my bits in
Oh time what have you done to me
You’re playing tricks with my size
Thank goodness for what he sees
I always look good in his eyes
