Every Day is New
This is my first poem of the new year. Last year I followed a photography prompt, which I also used for my poetry too. This year I am not going to restrict myself in quite the same way.
I enjoyed attaching a photo to each one, so I am still going to try and do that – but without any pressure. What I shall also be doing, on a more regular basis, is linking up to #ThePrompt, a linky hosted by Sara at Mum Turned Mom. She is extremely supportive of Prose for Thought and I have regularly seen her prompts and thought to myself ‘I must do that’ without actually getting round to it. This year will be different!
So, Sara’s prompt this week is the word ‘new’. The image I have attached is one of the Christmas tree farm next to the retreat where I work . I like the image of all the new Christmas trees just starting out – ready to be harvested come December. Very apt in both looking back and forward to all things new. The poem is helping to see that new years aren’t just for new starts. Every day really is new.
Every Day is New
Every day is new, not just every year
You don’t know what it will bring
Maybe some laughter or a tear
Every day is new, full of possibility
Open your eyes wide
You never know what you might see
Every day is new, different things to learn
There are new things to discover
At each and every turn
Every day is new, not all of them are good
But they don’t all have to be bad
That must be understood
Every day is new, some are big and some are small
But, whatever it may throw at you
Stand up and stand tall
Every day is new, live it as your last
Stop and look around you
Don’t always move so fast
Every day is new, so make sure you make them count
There is no point in wasting them
I know that is paramount

A brilliant first poem of the year and it’s so good to see you using Sara’s prompts too 🙂 xox
“Every day is new” is such a good mantra. I shall be repeating this one! I love the photo! It really gives weight to the words, a lovely combination X
Thank you so much Nicole – I am glad you feel the photo and words match, I feel the same! x
I love the sentiment in this. So often in January we get caught up in setting big audacious goal for the year but why not set smaller targets – day by day, week by week, month by month – that we can gain satisfaction in achieving?
Thank you Tim, I am really pleased you saw the meaning in this poem 🙂
Such a lovely positive poem and a mantra to live by
Thank you Nicola 🙂 x
Well done! So much truth. I sometimes need a reminder that everything starts again tomorrow #PoCoLo
Thank you Charlene 🙂 x
Beautiful poem. All the best for 2016
Thank you x
Hi Victoria, I could spend a month trying to write a poem and probably still wouldn’t manage! As always you’ve done yourself proud. I love the second to last verse, particularly the first line: ” Every day is new, live it as your last”…. Wise words indeed.
xx
Oh bless you, thank you Debbie. (I bet you could if you tried!) xx
This is beautiful, Vic. A perfect understanding of how life can be beautiful, and life can be tough, too – but each new day brings with it the promise of a better tomorrow. I hope 2016 brings you everything you wish for xx #theprompt
Thank you so much Leigh – what lovely words xx
Beautiful words, your poem is crafted with so much sentiment and meaning! Each is day is new, it is indeed.
Each day is new, it is indeed (edited LOL)
Thank you so much x
This is beautiful, and so true – there’s a big focus on New Year and everything that brings but there’s a new day every day – and it’s true we should live life to the full. Thank you so much for linking up to #PoCoLo xx
Thank you so much Stephanie – and thank you for hosting x
I echo every single sentiment in this poem Vicky. And I love the analogy of the Christmas trees for the old and new 🙂

I love this Vic! I don’t get why some people are so fixated on starting something or changing something at the start of the year or the month. Everyday brings new wonders and opportunities and you have encapsulated that brilliantly in your poem #pocolo
Thank you so much lovely lady – what a wonderful compliment xx
Such positive words Vicky, absolutely love it. I’m not a big one for making huge changes just because of the new year, I also believe that each day is a new day. I love how you’ve taken us through all the opportunities that a new day can bring. Wonderful. Thank you so much for your kind words, I will be back at Prose for Thought next week as life will be back to normal then! I’m hoping to write more poetry this year, so may even manage to write something brand new for Prose4T sometimes! Thank you so much for joining in with #ThePrompt, really wonderful to have you xx
Thank you so much for your lovely comment Sara. You write such beautiful words and I am really looking forward to seeing more of your poetry. Thank you too, for your support xx

Thank you very much Amy – I am so pleased that came across 🙂 x

Hello Lovely Victoria, How nice it is to be back! I’m sorry I’ve been away so long but with organising a wedding in 7 weeks and then Christmas, I’ve been flat out! I hope you’re well. I LOVE this poem, it is so positive and uplifting which is just what we need to start the New Year with. Such wise words too about not wasting any day at all. Let’s hope 2016 brings us lots of happy days and adventure!
Take Care Tor xx
Hi Tor, it is fantastic to see you – and please don’t apologise! You have been really busy and you should definitely have been concentrating on all that! I am OK thanks 🙂 I am so pleased you like my poem – and I am glad to hear that you like the poem and it did the job it should have done 🙂 xx
Love this – so very true that every day is new. I especially like the third verse – each day brings new discoveries and opportunities to learn and I love the way you’ve summed this up.
