Prose for Thought – NaPoWriMo Day 11

Thank you to everyone who linked up to Prose For Thought last week. I am so pleased to see so many creative people in one place.

Its Day 11 of National Poetry Writing Month – or NaPoWriMo. You’d think by now I would be ‘all poemd out’! But, in fact, all it is doing is inspiring me more!!

This last week hasn’t been easy. Not only have we sold the house and been looking to relocate, therefore looking for houses in new areas, but my car has now been in the garage for two weeks – I am investigating cheaper ways to get it fixed after the quote I received would be the equivalent of buying a small house! Of course, during this time, I have been unable to teach. When I have things on my mind, I find it hard to sleep. This poem sums it up I think!

Lack of Sleep

Tossing, turning, things on my mind

Peaceful slumber I can’t seem to find

Too much going on in my brain

Lack of sleep, driving me insane

I did everything to prepare for this

I read my book, had a goodnight kiss

I listened to a relaxing CD

So why must this sleep now elude me?

The more I can’t, frustrated I get

Tomorrow I’ll be knackered I bet

This doesn’t help Vic, just chill out

Relax, think good thoughts, that will help

That’s so hard to bear. I have some nights like that coming up in my future – with a move to a new country in July. Hope you manage to get some rest when you can, in between the sleeplessness 🙂

I hope that whatever is coming doesn’t affect your sleep too badly x

That’s the worst! It’s the adrenalin rushing through your body when you can’t sleep that I can’t stand – and then the exhaustion the next day makes it even more miserable. I can relate! x

I hate that, and the desperation to get to sleep only makes you more wakeful! Hope you slept better last night. xx

Lovely poem – oh I know the frustration all too well, especially after having fed the BabBee back to sleep and climbing back in next to my snoring husband… the relaxing feelings leave me! Bee x

Congratulations on selling your house but I can understand the next step leaves so much on your mind. I could totally relate to your poem, I often struggle with sleep when there is a lot going on. Sorry I’ve not been here for a while but poems come to me I can’t just sit and write them, making them a bit sporadic. x
