Celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee

Way back in 1977, when I had just started school, I can recall the Silver Jubilee celebrations. Each class was asked to make a crown and a boy and a girl from each class was chosen as a winner. Graham Methold won for the boys in our class.

I won for the girls. I can remember getting some boiled sweets and sharing them with all my friends. It was a very hot day and we all sat out in the playground and celebrated.

Ten years ago, Ross, Grace and I went to my brothers house to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. We had a lovely barbecue in the garden and watched the big party on television in the evening. The weather, again was kind.

So far, this year, we have had a lovely morning of celebrations at Rex’s school with a parade of Kings and Queens, a service in the school playground with a rousing rendition of God Save the Queen, judging of the Jubilee Cake Bake Off judged by The Royal British Legion (Rex won second prize!) and then a picnic of squash and cake (there were loads!).

Of course, our celebrations would not be complete without our own home getting into the spirit of everything and, because there are only 4 houses in our Close, we are having a small street party which we are all really looking forward.

If you are having a street party too, here are some great ideas for food, drink, decoration and dressing up!

The Jubilee Drinks

Bring Me Drink

This fantastic delivery service is right up our street (party) in more ways than one! With a fantastic selection of drinks to suit all tastes and ages, they stock alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and offer a next day delivery option – perfect for those last-minute party top-ups! If you’re planning a party, it’s also MUCH easier to have the drinks delivered than lug them in and out of the car! Plus, if this wasn’t enough, they offer bar snacks too! Packaging is all recyclable, they offer free delivery on orders over £50 and it is tracked too!

My recommended products include:
