My Mum. There For Me During My Pregnancy and Beyond. A C&G Baby Club Post.

Pregnancy can be a very scary time. It can also be a very lonely time if you have friends around you who either don’t already have children or who are not pregnant themselves. If you have read my past post about the relationship with my daughter’s father then you can probably imagine that it was not an easy time by any stretch of the imagination but there was one person who was there for me the whole time, night or day. My Mum.

My Mum is not only a qualified NNEB Nanny but she has 7 children of her own, of which I am the eldest. Throughout my pregnancy I was regularly in tears and would spend a lot of my time during the day – particularly my lunch breaks – with her. Then, when I went into labour, she was there. From 9am in the morning, throughout the day, when Grace was born and then until midnight when Grace’s father was long gone and the hospital finally found me a bed.

Then, 3 months in, when I had to leave my home, my Mum put a roof over mine and Grace’s heads and cared for Grace on a regular basis whilst I had to deal with all the legal implications over the split. We used to visit a contact centre every week to enable Grace to see her father and my Mum came with me every time to support me.  It is understandable why she and Grace are so close.

When Cow and Gate wrote to me to offer me the chance to give my closest pregnancy friend a gift, I knew all the way that it would be my Mum. So, I chose a wonderful Alice in Wonderland style Afternoon Tea called ‘Queen of Hearts’ via buyagift with Scoff and Banter.  It was particularly appropriate as Lewis Carroll was born in Guildford.

So, on Thursday last week, me, my Mum, Grace and my niece, Emily, took a girly trip to Guildford. We went shopping to M&S and Debenhams where the girls tried on lots of clothes – and at one point put on a fashion show in the changing rooms!

Once the shopping was done, we set off for a walk up the hill to the Radisson Blu Hotel where our tea was being served. The girls walked 10 paces in front of us (pretending to be very grown-up!) whilst my Mum and I walked and chatted behind them.

We arrived at the hotel and straight away noted how beautiful it was with its well-set tables and stunning chandeliers.  We were presented with a menu where my Mum chose English Breakfast tea, I decided on Earl Grey, Grace went for a chocolate milkshake and Emily opted for a strawberry milkshake.

When the tea arrived, our eyes nearly popped out of our heads. Emily proclaimed that she was ‘in heaven’, and wanted to ‘live here!’.

We couldn’t manage all of the yummy treats so the lovely staff confirmed that they would allow us to take a bag for the leftovers. I doubt they lasted long in my Mums fridge!

 

Once we had finished tea, the day was rounded off perfectly when we went to visit my sister-in-law and my Mum’s youngest grandchild, Lily. It made it even better when we discovered one of my sisters was there too! A wonderful family day 🙂
