Review of the TP Wooden Mud Kitchen

With the impending garden makeover, Ross and I knew that we would be looking to upgrade some of Rex’s outdoor play equipment so, when TP offered us their Splash and Play Wooden Mud Kitchen, we knew it would not only be a big hit with Rex but it would also look very classy in our new outdoor space.

Who are TP?

The TP Splash & Play Happy Chef Wooden Mud Kitchen

We gifted this Mud Kitchen to Rex for his birthday and he is utterly thrilled. It has two areas and has plenty of opportunities for imaginary play with four ‘hobs’, an oven door, a huge storage shelf and, the best bit in Rex’s eyes, a working sink!

The TP Pump and Play Working Sink is a really clever design. All you need to do is pump the tap to get running water. Hold the tap over the draining board and there is a twisty, turny channel for the water to run down and into the sink. The sink has a small plug which, when pulled, means the water goes back into the holding area under the sink ready to be pumped back out via the tap again.

There are little screws to be added to hang the gorgeous stainless-steel utensil set on. This includes a frying pan, a saucepan and a soup pan together with whisk. You can also use the big blackboard space to record orders or recipes. Not only good for mud but sand or just water if you prefer!

Construction of the TP Mud Kitchen

I have to admit that we removed this from the box and quickly learned that, despite it saying that it came with pre-drilled holes, they weren’t. We actually had to ask one of the gardeners to construct it for us as he had the right tools! It took him around an hour in the end. The wood frame looks sturdy and well made and the instructions are clear and easy to read. The sink is extremely easy to put together.

Dimensions and General Information

The sink would hold 10kg of mud (we haven’t gone there yet!) or 10 litres of water. Built dimensions: 3ft 1” x 1ft 2” x 2ft 9” (H). Suitable for aged 3+ years.

Final Thoughts

Despite the slight set-back of not being able to put the mud kitchen together in time for his birthday, I am really impressed with the quality of the kitchen and the gorgeous utensil set that accompanies it. The hob top is a simple effective design and there is plenty more space for other play accessories. Rex absolutely loves it and it is an attractive toy which looks totally at home in our new garden.
