What Should a Man Wear to a Spring Wedding?

With winter on it’s way out, the time to plan for any up and coming Spring weddings is drawing nearer. It doesn’t take much research to find out that most of the information you see both online and otherwise giving advice on what to wear tends to be focused on women’s dresses. Men’s suits and accessories seem to be something of an afterthought, so I thought I would share with you some ideas for the males out there!
A suit is a suit is a suit, right? Wrong! In the ‘80s men seemed to get away with dragging out that same boring grey suit they wore to work for all other occasions, but times have changed and with the plethora of fantastic seasonal lines now available especially for men’s wedding suits there is no excuse for the ‘one suit fits all’ approach.

The Relaxed Approach
Firstly, let’s deal with those more casual weddings that mean a suit is not necessary. These allow you to break with convention and get a little creative.
Maybe the traditional wedding has been eschewed for a family gathering in a garden or house or the event is otherwise indicated as a smart casual dress code. If so, you can think of a funky mix of colours with slim-fit knitted jumper (tucked in if possible) under a nice linen blend jacket. You can pair this with smart trousers in the same colour as the jacket. How about khakis or dark greens for both with maybe a salmon pink jumper?
Be sure to get a belt to help create definition and if you’re really bold, opt for a clean, new pair of Portuguese leather white trainers.
Suits You!
Let’s face it, most weddings call for men to wear suits, even in these relatively more relaxed times.
In spring, when everything has thawed out and there’s a good chance of sun and mild temperatures, it’s time to rethink those comfortable wool blend winter suits.
If it’s to be a very formal daytime wedding then you could be looking at morning dress. You are then kind of restricted to black or grey for the jacket (morning coat), blue or light for the shirt and solid or striped grey trousers. You could liven things up with an eggshell blue waistcoat.
Formal evening weddings could see you veer into tux territory.
Which Colours?
The majority of spring weddings will fit into the informal daytime wedding, with a smart dress code, which means a suit, but not morning dress. This is where many go so wrong.
Get some advice from friends and family as to which colours suit you best for your suit choice. A top tip is if you have blue eyes, go for blues and turquoises for suits and ties. Light grey suits paired with lavender tie will do wonders for you if you have dark hair and have recently been on holiday and got a tan! Navy or darker blue suits can be offset beautifully with an orange tie and work great for darker complexions and pastel blue shirts with beige suits can look great on a wide variety of skin and hair colour types.
The important thing is to consult someone who has a good eye for colour and clothing over a coffee and a browse.
