WIN an Amazing Prize from Message in a Bottle Book – Ends 29th June 2016
If you are a regular reader of my blog, then you may have noticed that I am working with a brand new publisher on a wonderful new children’s book called ‘Message in a Bottle’. It has a unique concept in the fact that your child is a part of the story. I don’t think I have ever met a more passionate team than the people behind this book and if you read on, you will understand why.
Tom Percival, the author, has written a large number of children’s books and is the illustrator of the well-known Skulduggery Pleasant series (books which Grace has read and enjoyed). You can find out much more about him over on his website.
Tuire Siiriainen is the illustrator and is an amazing new talent. She has regularly shared her pictures for the new book over in our Launch Team group on Facebook. Kiki is the main character of the story and has become a well-loved member of our team! Message in a Bottle has the support of some very encouraging bloggers. Many of them have written posts and you will find their opinions on the posts below:
‘My boys LOVE seeing their own names in a book. What child doesn’t?’ Expat Life with a Double Buggy
‘I just knew I wanted to be involved’ Odd Socks and Lollipops
‘We are proud to support Message in a Bottle’ The Mad House of Cats and Babies
‘This is one of the best children’s books I have ever seen!’ Adventures with J
‘Kiki has become a much loved character in our house’ The Parenting Jungle
How can you not love Kiki? Virtually All Sorts
‘I adore the main character Kiki – do you know which bird she is?’ Find out on Diary of an Imperfect Mum
‘I’ve really enjoyed watching the book evolve and I am really excited to own my own.’ Two Tiny Hands
So, if you haven’t already had enough encouragement to go over and support Message in a Bottle on Kickstarter, then here are 5 more reasons to do so:
You and your child are part of the story
Your child’s name, address and your very own personal message will appear seamlessly throughout the story. This means that the book becomes a wonderful keepsake that will stay with them as they grow. It will form a special bond between you and them.
Your personal message is fully integrated into the story
Whether it be for a birthday, starting school, getting through a bereavement, recovering from an illness or just to say I love you, you can send your own special message which is fully integrated into the adventure rather than a dedication completely detached from the story. I live quite a way from my nieces and nephews and I think this is the perfect way to connect me with them across the miles.
It is educational
This book has not only been thought out in it’s concept but it also has educational content. Szymek Drobniak, Ph.D., is the science consultant and the co-creator of Kiki’s Kids club, an online portal that adds a whole ton of interactivity to the story to further enhance your child’s reading skills. The educational information about the story’s animals has been verified by him and the club will include fun quizzes about biology and geography. There will be all kinds of printable activity sheets and interactive games that will help children to discover the route Kiki took to deliver the bottle are planned. All this and it’s free!
It helps develop empathy and compassion
Unlike many other personalised books, Message in a Bottle is not just about your child. The journey throughout the story includes them rather than makes them the central feature. This means they can empathise with the characters and recognise the challenges that they are meeting in order to help deliver the message. It will help them to develop understanding, foresight and compassion, whilst still being included throughout the story. A feeling of togetherness and being part of a team.
Full of recognisable and lovable characters
As I said earlier in my post, Kiki has become a much-loved part of our Launch Team. She is a brave, adventurous bird who your child will support on her courageous journey. She meets many other animals along the way – crocodiles, monkeys, a whale, a crab, a bear so there will be an animal here for everyone!

I’ve seen personalised books before – we’ve even got various ones for the kids – but this concept seems truly unique because it is so integrated in the story and the links with the online resources. x
