5 Reasons to Attend Countryfile Live

Countryfile Live is now in it’s 3rd year and takes place from the 2nd until 5th August. There are four days worth of live arena shows, activities in which you can take part, farm animal demos, discussions and debates, food, drink and shopping from retailers and lifestyle brands. Set in the grounds of the stately home, Blenheim Palace, it brings together all the great things about the British countryside.

I have to admit that I am a huge lover of Countryfile. I don’t watch it as religiously as I should but I certainly read all their email newsletters and take a good look at all the articles, seeking out my next wildlife photography venture. I have wanted to go ever since they began this event, so I am thrilled that Grace and I will be going this year.

To make it even more special, this year marks the 30th anniversary of Countryfile, so there is even more to celebrate. Here are just 5 reasons to visit.

30th Anniversary of the Countryfile Programme

As 2018 is the 30th anniversary of the programme, Countryfile Live will be hosting an exhibition area which goes behind the scenes of the show. Producers, camera crews and presenters alike will all take to the stage, giving the audience the low-down on just what it takes to create the programme.

Summer Party featuring The Shires

This is one part of the weekend which I am particularly excited about. Not only because it will be Grace’s first music concert but also because I am a huge Shires fan. Their music has featured in my last two Top 100s and I always feel so upbeat when I hear their songs.

Hosted by Bob Harris, the party will take place from 6-9pm on Saturday 4th August. As well as The Shires headlining, there will be music from Newton Faulkner and Ferris & Sylvester. The presenters will be there too!

Kayaking at the Waterside

This one is definitely on Grace’s list having recently tried kayaking at a school residential visit.  Sessions will last around 20 minutes and will run all day and are suitable for the whole family to give it a try. As well as stand-up paddle boards, canoes and kayaks, you can also try your hand at fishing.

The Wildlife Zone

I am particularly keen to visit this area – mainly from a photography perspective!

There will be a pop-up nature reserve which features a beehive to enable you to watch honey being produced. There will also be pond dipping, animal nature trails and you will get the chance to feel like a bird in a giant bird’s nest! There is plenty to discover about butterflies, learn about hedgehogs and how you can help to keep them safe, listen to talks on the Garden Stage from experts in bugs, reptiles, amphibians, and learn how you can make your garden friendly for bumblebees.

Theatre Talks at Countryfile Live

There are the National Trust debate theatre and the Quilter Cheviot Theatre which both have a full line-up on each day. There will be interesting debates, talks and ‘Audiences With…’ on a whole host of topics; from how to achieve success, the future of farming, photography workshops and even what it takes to become an astronaut.

I am particularly looking forward to the talk on Saturday at 3.15pm in the Quilter Cheviot Theatre. This features Ross Dickie, Austin Thomas and Ian Savage in a guide to taking better photographs – because you can never have too much knowledge!

Please note that we are attending Countryfile Live on a press pass but it is not a requirement that I write this post.
