The Summer Fayre at Forde Abbey

When we first moved to Somerset 5 years ago,  I promised myself that I would regularly attend some of the lovely summer fayres they have here. For various reasons, we have never got round to going to one – until last Thursday!

Forde Abbey Summer Fayre is an annual event and I was determined that we would book in advance to make sure we got there! As it is only 10 minutes up the road, I purchased the tickets on Tuesday.

I was surprised by the amount of people there given the fact that it was a Thursday. The weather was really hot (probably a bit too hot for us!) but the event looked like great fun.

Jonathan performed with his beautiful horses Picasso and Salvador, fellow rider, Steph, and falcon, Morwenna. Horses have always been my absolute favourite animals and I was thrilled to hear the familiar theme tunes to Black Beauty and Champion the Wonder Horse! The highlight of the show for me was the falcon flying through the legs of the horse.

After two and a half hours, the heat got the better of us so we decided to get back into the welcome air-conditioning and go for a drive. We will certainly be back next year though!

  7. Looks like a great day – and more birds of prey! They picked a hell of a day for it, though – although I suppose extreme heat was probably better than the rain we’ve just had.

  8. A wonderful looking country fair with plenty for all the family. A lovely set of photos to remember the day.
