Changing bags have come a long way in the last 10 years. When I was sent this Joolz Changing Bag for a review I have to admit that I was a little sceptical to start with. There are so many out there with bells and whistles on. That look fashionable and expensive. So what could a plain, black number do for me?
The Joolz Day Studio Nursery Bag
This is the Joolz Day Studio Nursery Bag. I am not sure why it is called that but to me, it is not about the name. Admittedly it is not the most beautiful, stylish bag in the world. However, what is more important is how practical it is. Joolz state that this particular bag benefits from the following features:
- Magnetic fastening
- Comfortable shoulder pad
- Adjustable shoulder band
- Several storage compartments
- Thermal lined bottle holders
As I said, when I first saw the bag I thought it was a little bit ‘ordinary’ but, I have to admit that looks aren’t everything. What is more important is how this bag performs – and perform it does. It is a bit like Mary Poppins bag in the fact that, when you think you might have run out of room, you manage to find some more! There are 4 great handy pockets on each side of the main compartment of the bag as well as the big space in the middle. There is then the front zip pocket with a further two velcro pockets inside.
The bag comes with it’s own handy, fold-out changing mat and two bottle warmer zip pockets on either side of the bag. There are some elasticated fixers on the strap of the bag which, I can only imagine, are for Joolz prams as I cannot see how they fix to my pushchair! The strap adjusts easily and, however much I put inside, it never seems to feel any heavier!
Things to Note
I love the handy changing mat but bag is rather bulky if you want to take it with you to the baby change room. I tend to take the mat with me and the little carry case I have for nappies and wipes. Also, I would love to know how to fix the bag on to my pushchair properly – it slides down on a regular basis. I am sure that a Joolz pram or pushchair has a fix for this but not so with mine.
Finally – and probably most importantly – the bottle warmer pockets are just too small. I used Tommee Tippee bottles which are short and dumpy rather than long and thin and they just don’t fit. They are great for carrying around Rex’s ranitidine medication though!
Final Thoughts on the Joolz Changing Bag
For a price of £84.99 I have to be honest and say that I did expect a little more on the decoration front as well as ensuring the bottle insulators were the right size. On the plus side, the bag is just so capacious as well as light and easy to carry. Who needs looks when you have practicality?
