With less than a month to go until the big day, many people start to run around like headless chickens trying to make sure that presents are bought and wrapped, the food is on order and you have enough place settings for the numbers of family who will be turning up on your doorstep. But what can you do to help ensure your home is ready for the big day? Well, I have already suggested ways in which to prepare your guest room, but here are 5 ideas on how you can make your house a cosier place to be.
Get Your Gas Fires Checked
The Health and Safety Executive strongly advises that all gas appliances, flues and pipework installed in your home should be regularly maintained and serviced at least annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Not only will it ensure that your home is warmer and the appliances are working properly but it will also mean that those all important safety checks are done.
Improve Energy Efficiency
One of the ways that you can make your house cosier during Christmas and the winter months is by improving insulation within your home. Making sure your loft and walls are well insulated will help with a more energy-efficient home as well as upgrading to composite doors, with companies like Kingfisher and Albany Windows. And you could even save money on your bills, too.
Christmas falls during the shortest days of the year and so time of the year can be dark and dreary in poorly-lit spaces. It may be an option to consider adding some new forms of lighting to the home such as table lamps or floor lamps. Of course, the Christmas tree lights will help, if only for a while!
Stock up in the Kitchen
If you are having family over during the festive season and you are responsible for the cooking then it might be a good idea to ensure that you have everything you need which includes enough pots and pans as well as mugs, plates and cutlery. We recently had just 2 friends over and it is amazing how quickly these all run out – the dishwasher was on overload! Take a look at some of the early sales online and make sure you have everything you need.
Add to Your Soft Furnishings
I don’t know about you, but I can never have enough cushions on our sofa! At this time of year it is a great excuse to stock up on some new ones which have a more seasonal feel to them. Not only will it make your lounge feel a bit more cosy but it will add to the Christmas decorations.
