A Review of Finding Dory, The Book of the Film from Parragon Books

Finding Nemo has long been a Disney favourite of mine. In fact, it was on television when we visited Ross’ family for Christmas last year and we all sat down to watch it together. I hadn’t seen it for a while so had forgotten just how good it was. So, when we found out the sequel, Finding Dory, was coming to our cinemas during the Summer we knew it would be on our list as a ‘must see’.

Fast forward to July this year, and yes, Finding Dory was the first film we saw when Grace broke up for the Summer holidays. It was a colourful film, with a fantastic story – and one of my favourite moments was when the sea lions appeared. Not just because they made us all laugh but because Ross laughed so much that the whole cinema could hear him and then they carried on laughing too. Definitely one of my favourite moments this year.

When Parragon books asked us if Grace would like the chance to read their Disney Pixar Finding Dory book of the film, we agreed. If only to re-live the sea lion moment!

The book was sent to us beautifully wrapped and it was accompanied by some Finding Dory stickers too. It is aimed at children aged 7 to 10 years and, I would say that Grace is at the upper end of this. Despite the fact that she is 9, she is reading books which are geared towards slightly older kids but, it didn’t stop her enjoyment of this one in the slightest.

The book consists of 144 pages and has an 8 page colour insert depicting vibrant coloured images from the film. It is extremely well-presented and we particularly liked the images and the silver writing was a lovely touch on the front.

The story is centred around Dory, who has awful memory loss – and has had since birth. As a result of this, she was separated from her parents when she was small and, with her friends Marlin and Nemo, she sets off on a quest to find them. She encounters many new friends along the way – including Hank, the septopus, Destiny, Bailey, Becky, the hilarious bird and, of course, the sea lions which we have already spoken about,

I won’t spoil the ending but it is a beautiful story full of heart-warming moments as well as plenty of laughs. Grace and I can totally recommend this book whether you have seen the film or not!

If you would like to own the book, then I’ve included my Amazon Affiliate link below to make it easier to find.

Disclosure: We were sent this book by Parragon in return for this honest review.
